**Purpose**:
Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Marketing and working closely with the Lassonde Research team, the Research Communications Officer role is responsible for raising awareness of research efforts of faculty members and graduate students, from across the Lassonde School of Engineering, both internally and externally, through high-quality written and multimedia content. The Research Communications Officer role identifies story ideas, interviews faculty members and graduate students, research/reviews faculty members' grant proposals and publications, and writes articles and reports, as well as helps to facilitate multimedia coverage that raises the School's reputation and brand through various online, digital and print channels. The role develops multimedia content to advance awareness and promotion of Lassonde's Strategic Academic Plan.The Research Communications Officer role supports the vision, mission, values, and strategic direction of Lassonde and York University. The role contributes to a positive, supportive team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, while embracing diversity and fostering inclusion.

**Education**:
University degree in Science or Engineering discipline preferred (Degrees in Journalism, Writing, or Communications will be considered) or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

**Experience**:
Three (3) years of related experience writing professionally in an academic, research or scientific/technical environment. Proven experience writing about and analyzing science, technology and/or engineering topics is required. Experience conducting research is required. Additionally, experience in developing communication approaches and executing communication strategies would be an asset.

**Skills**:
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an ability to write clearly about complex topics for a general audience.Strong attention to details. Ability to conduct interviews with professionals, including faculty, industry members and students.Able to maintain discretion and diplomacy.A self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to read, comprehend and interpret complex information.Able to prioritize, and to work effectively under pressure of high volume.Excellent organizational and project management skills.Ability to communicate complex ideas in an engaging and accessible way.
