**Job Description**:
We are currently recruiting for an **Analyst/Associate **to join Active Equities (AE) department in Toronto on a full-time basis to play a key role in the Portfolio Construction & Risk (PC&R) team within Active Equities (AE).
Active Equities has several investment portfolios, including AE North America, AE Europe, AE Latin America as well as AE Asia, with the philosophy of creating risk adjusted return based on fundamental research and insight, coupled with quantitative portfolio construction and active risk management. These investment programs are structured as Long/Short, market neutral portfolios to generate outperformance according to our long-term investment theses and differentiated alpha insights as well as factor driven hedge portfolios. The hedge/short portfolios are constructed and optimized based on a Multi-Factor Model framework to hedge away the undesired systematic risk and to maximize the level and contribution of desirable idiosyncratic risks in the portfolios.
Portfolio Construction & Risk (PC&R) team within AE is responsible for design and implementation of quantitative shorting/hedging strategies, portfolio construction and risk optimization activities for all the regional portfolios, including oversight of the Hedge Overlay portfolios as well as Enhanced Beta programs. The team has also the mandate to participating in strategy characterization, capital & collateral management-oriented initiatives for the department and interacts closely with the Total Fund Management (TFM) department within the firm.
To achieve its broad mandate, members of PC&R team will partner closely with the regional teams as well as Investment Research (IR) team, develop relevant expertise around regional portfolio developments as well as market dynamics. They are expected to act as thought partners to the regional heads to optimize and manage the risk composition of the portfolios.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Analyst/Associate is expected to play a key role in the PC&R team, partners closely with other investment professionals within AE and PC&R Team and contributes to strategic initiatives, impacting the portfolio construction and hedging strategies such as onboarding new portfolios, assessment of macroeconomic risk factors and different risk models, factor valuation, AE level portfolio composition and bespoke/custom hedging/index construction strategies.
Additionally, the individual will collaborate with several groups within the Fund to help with trading activities and to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of portfolio risk, funding and factor related metrics. Particularly the Analyst/Associate is expected to build effective relationships and work closely with Financing and Trading groups on trade execution and borrow cost reporting, Investment Risk on risk monitoring and measurement, TFM on characterization of AE portfolios, Technology and Data on developing and systemizing the portfolio analytical frameworks and Investment Operations/Performance groups on P&L measurement and reporting.
