Family Violence Support Worker

As the **AIWCC **_Family Violence Support Worker,_ you'll be working with newcomer, refugee and immigrant women to strengthen resiliency and expand the family’s resources.
The Support worker provides intensive, innovative and holistic awareness through case assessment and workshop sessions to women and their families who have experienced family violence.
- **Qualifications**_
- Degree in Human Services Field; preferably social work, with related experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with families
- **Ability to speak fluently in Arabic /Somali is a strong asset.**:
- Experience working with vulnerable women, children and families
- Experience working with families from diverse cultures; especially refugees, newcomer and new immigrants
- Requires knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with people affected by trauma
- Requires knowledge of and competence in delivering trauma informed care
- Understanding of community development approaches
- Understanding of the Child, Youth, and Families Enhancement Act
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Case management and facilitation skills
- Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sectors Check completed within the last 6 months
- Child Welfare Intervention Record Check completed within the last 6 months
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and liability insurance
- Strong interpersonal skills to help establish good working relationships with clients and colleagues
- Ability to establish clear boundaries and be sensitive to the individual needs of each family
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to problem solve with a non-confrontational approach
- Reliable and flexible availability, including some evenings and weekends
- Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
- Ability to respond to crisis situations in a calm manner
- **Key Responsibilities**:_
Engage with clients in a culturally sensitive approach
Deliver awareness workshops using a client centered, strength based approach consistent with agency and program philosophy;
Maintain accurate and timely data collection, data entry and completion of any assessments and surveys as per agency;
Support clients through case assessment and referal
Provide referrals to other resources as appropriate;
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with community services and partners within domestic/ family violence sector;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others in a manner that facilitates decision making and collaboration
Conduct client assessment of needs when completing an intake.
Provide information, support and referral to victims and their families in relation to their presenting needs
Support women who have who have been victims of family violence
Use a Trauma Informed Care approach to support families and individuals
Responsible for the coordination and facilitation of workshops
Completion of formal documentation and ensuring file standards are met
Attend **AIWCC** staff meetings, service team meetings, trainings and supervision meetings as required
Other duties as directed by the ED/ Director of Program and Services.
