**About the Role**:
With a passion for care towards residents, families and team members, the Recreation Therapy Assistant is accountable for providing opportunities for the residents to realize their maximum potential. The Recreation Therapy Assistant provides services responsive to the holistic needs of the residents and promotes choice while maintaining dignity and facilitating independence.
**What You Will Do**:
Individual responsibilities will fall under five main areas of focus:
- Resident-Centered Care: Promotes service excellence through active participation with the Supportive Living Team to achieve and maintain quality resident care within the scope of Recreation Therapy. Supports and promotes resident independence within a community setting. Designs and implements on-site recreational activities for residents. Liases with public partners to establish a variety of community events.
- Documentation: Accurate, comprehensive and timely documentation and communication of unusual resident changes in alignment with Bethany policies and procedures.
- Safety: Contributes to a safe environment for residents, team and self by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all resident and occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Pro-active Learner: Demonstrates the vision and values of Bethany and lives out the mission of Creating Caring Communities. Attends and actively participates in education opportunities, health and safety training and safe equipment operation training.
- Team Work: Cares for and actively participates and assists the Interdisciplinary Team to achieve and maintain a responsible atmosphere of resident centered care. Promotes constructive caring relationships with the corporate, facility and interdisciplinary support teams, as well as residents, families, volunteers and visitors.
**What You Bring**:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Recreational Assistant Diploma or certificate preferred
- One year Recreational experience in a Recreational setting
- A working knowledge of a variety of Recreational and leisure program modalities required
- Prior related experience with individuals with dementia, or seniors preferred
- Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
- Demonstrate ability to understand, speak, read and write effectively in English
- Excellent observation, communication and problem solving skills
- Class 4 Drivers License or willingness to obtain one
