**Job Description**:
**POSITION PURPOSE**:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Emergency Training, Exercises and Public Education, and under the guidance and direction of the Program Coordinator, Fire and Life Safety Education, is responsible for delivering day-to-day fire/life safety and personal emergency preparedness education at the Community Safety Village; facilitating and delivery fire prevention programs mandated under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act and personal emergency preparedness education program under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act; facilitating Risk Watch programs of Fire/Life Safety for those who visit and use the Safety Village; working closely and in cooperation with York Region Police and other educators (e.g., Paramedic Services, Public Health Educators) in the day-to-day administration of the Village on a casual on call basis.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Delivers and evaluates, and assists the Program Coordinator in developing, a personal emergency preparedness program for grade five students which identifies types of disasters that may affect the Region, components of a family disaster plan, evacuation considerations and family disaster supplies; prepares training materials, including lesson plans with identified learning objectives, and any other materials needed for presentation to classes.
- Adapts educational programs, delivery techniques and resources to meet the needs of diverse learners that include primary grade children, youth, and individuals with special needs, senior citizens and the special interest of specific groups (i.e. Girl Guides/Boy Scouts, etc).
- Assists in the training of volunteers and co-op students; provides training, monitors the activities, and evaluates volunteers and co-op students; assists in coordinating activities for Fire Prevention Week; participates in the evaluation and selection of volunteers and co-op students, as requested.
- Participates, as a member of the Community Safety Village Team working in a York Regional Police facility, with YRP staff and on equipment and technology.
- Liaises with the users of the village, volunteers and Fire Services and with personnel from school boards and representatives from the independent schools, with respect to program evaluation and utilization of the Village; updates and modifies programs, as necessary.
- Liaises with stakeholders on the Fire and Life Safety and Personal Emergency Preparedness components of the Community Safety Village.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Safety Village, Department and Corporate objectives.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Education or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one (1) year teaching experience or experience as a Public Educator.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in sound teaching/learning strategies, methods and delivery techniques based on learner styles/needs.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and creative and technical ability to develop relevant and age appropriate educational resources.
- Ability to plan, develop and deliver Regional-based education programs, including the ability to deliver education to high risk groups in the Region.
