**Summary**:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community.

We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Native Youth Resource Centre, the Youth Drop-in Worker will:

- Have the overall responsibility to provide direct service to Aboriginal youth experiencing problems that prohibit them from reaching their full potential.
- Provide support to frontline staff at the Youth Department and assist with the general delivery of drop-in services.
- Provide referrals to traditional Aboriginal cultural resources pertinent to the needs of Aboriginal youth.
- Develop and implement life skill and cultural workshops.
- Develop community resources related to the basic needs of homeless and at-risk Aboriginal youth, and assist in the delivery of case management services for youth involved with the criminal justice system.
- Ensure a full range of options are available to youth who are ready to take tangible steps towards achieving their potential.
- Provide case management and group activities (circles) to youth in need of individual support such as crisis intervention, dispute resolution, and other supportive intervention.
- Participate in activities and oversee the smooth running of the drop-in program and maintain accurate and up-to-date written reports as requested.
- Outreach activities to include attending cultural community events, visiting schools and other social service Agencies.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills**:

- Have a high literacy in Aboriginal culture(s) and post secondary education in the Child and Youth Worker program or alternatively, an equivalent combination of education in a related field and experience working with Aboriginal youth will be considered.
- Pass a Vulnerable Sector police check and understand the unique dynamics that exist within the Aboriginal, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
- Flexibility and ability to work within a team approach to service delivery and with Aboriginal youth; excellent organizational, oral/verbal/written communication skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
- This position requires the flexibility to be able to work days, evenings, and Saturdays. Rotating 2 week schedule of Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday’s 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday to Friday, 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday’s 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
- Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
