Overview:
The Area Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and operation of the various pits, quarries and depots in the Kingston/Belleville/Quinte area, particularly site maintenance and shipping activities. The Area Supervisor’s primary focus is to lead the health and safety of the area employees, this will be done while operating as efficiently as possible. The Area Supervisor will lead by example. The Area Supervisor may as needed be used to backfill plant or shipping staff - maintenance tasks, inspections, clean up, feeding the plant using a wheel loader, loading trucks, operating the weigh scales, etc.
**Responsibilities**:
**Safety Culture**:
- Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm;
- Lead daily huddles and participates with the JHSC to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
- Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
**Human Resources**:
- Responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of direct reports to maximize their performance;
- Assist in the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports;
- Assist in the site hiring process;
- Promote operational efficiency;
**Shipping and Site Activities**:
- Supports shift scheduling to meet shipping demands;
- Supports inventory management targets;
- Responsible for participating in the short-term planning and execution of production activities.
- Runs heavy equipment for shipping or production and/or perform cleanup activities (as a back up).
**Financial**:
- Ordering parts within operating budget and help to identify cost reduction opportunities;
**Customer Focus**:
- Coordinate with Quality and Shipping personnel to address quality issues related to production issues
**Land**:
- Compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements.
**Environmental**:
- Assist in following the Environmental Management System (EMS);
- Observe site and plant for dust emissions and enact action plans to keep it under control.
- Check and monitor pumps.
**Relationship with Others**
- Reports to Plant Manager
- Works with the Safety Representatives and JHSC to develop and maintain a culture of safety
- Supports site departments as required
- Works with Safety, Quality, Land and Environmental personnel as required
**Specific Accountabilities**:
- Safety: Daily Huddles, Field Level Risk Assessments, Identifying Hazards, Incident reporting, Safety Inspections
- Land/Environment: Dust and Noise control
- Labour: Shift Schedules, People Development
- Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Maintenance management, Daily production sheets, Downtime reports, Daily production activities
- Customer Focus: Quality KPI’s
**Dimensions**:
- Reports to the Plant Manager
- 1,200,000 tonnes production/shipping
- 24hr Operation (as needed)
Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience:_**
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- An undergraduate degree, college diploma, or equivalent field experience
- Ability to proficiently operate a front end loader
- A background including heavy equipment operation, preventative maintenance
- Mechanical aptitude an asset
- Drilling and blasting experience an asset
