**About the Opportunity**:
The Unit Aide has an important role within the health care team. Reporting directly to the Health Services Manager, the Unit Aide is responsible for stocking and maintaining all supplies and equipment to meet the needs of patients in their designated work area. An understanding of the basic principles of infection control is essential and key to providing a safe environment for patients and staff alike. This role also provides indirect and direct support for patient care under direction of licensed nursing staff - RN/LPN

**About You**:

- ** 1** 20 **% **Stocking and Maintenance of Supplies
Put supplies away; replenish areas with requested supplies. Rotate stock; check expiry dates; return/dispose of outdated supplies. Note stock which is on back order and follow-up with appropriate others. Maintains linen quota and distribution, liase with laundry as required. Empty linen hampers and bedside garbage as needed. Identify and report the need for equipment repairs. Tidy rooms/areas as required.
- ** 2 **25 **%** Provide Safe Environment for Patients and Staff
Understand the basic infection control principles. Provide new supplies, such as tissues, straws, etc. to each patient. Ensure soiled items are disposed of in proper containers. Clean and disinfect patient’s bedside equipment such as IV poles, IV pumps, bedside tables, bed and bedrails regularly and between patients. Wash hands using proper technique in hand washing. Adhere to Health Canadas Guidelines for Infection Control - routine practices and additional precautions for preventing transmission of infection in health care.

**3 **15 **% **Cleaning and Disinfecting Utensils/Trays/Equipment
Clean utensils/tray/equipment. Disinfect utensils/tray/equipment. Send to sterile processing department for processing, packaging, and sterilization. Check packages of sterile products for expiry dates and damage, discard outdated stock. Store sterilized equipment and supplies in an appropriate areas.

**4** 40 **% **Patient Care Activities
Assist with patient care (weigh patients, set patient up with basins, assist with patient baths, shaves, feeds, positioning, lifts and transfers) and records intake and output. Answer patient call bells and assist as appropriate. Make beds. Assist with delivery of meal trays and set up as required. Assist patients with toileting and collect specimens as directed.

- Casual relief
- Shifts will need include days, nights and weekends

**Compensation and Incentives**:
$18.66 - $20.19 Hourly
