Gis Assistant

**Position Summary**:

- This posting is for 2 non-permanent, hourly summer students. _
- **_Information Technology Services/Recreation, Park and Culture _**_- this position is up to 4 months with the possibility of extension (May - August) _
- **_Transportation, Engineering and Operations _**_- this position is up to 6 months with the possibility of extension (May - October)Strathcona County is extending 2 summer employment opportunities to post-secondary students enrolled in a GIS program to work with Transportation Engineering and Operations, or Information and Technology Services/ Recreation, Parks and Culture.

**Responsibilities**:

- Create and/or edit geospatial data/apps in the Strathcona County Enterprise GIS via ArcGIS Products - ArcGIS Pro, ArcGISOnline, Portal for ArcGIS and Enterprise Geodatabases
- Collect and enter asset data into various asset databases, ensuring timely and accurate information
- Data collection may involve field-based duties
- Produce cartographic maps to meet operational requirements
- Complete business and/or spatial analysis as needed to complete assigned activities
- Complete administrative tasks such as data collection and data entry

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Currently e nroll ed in a post-secondary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program
- Previous related experience, including experience with Esri ArcGIS Products - ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and enterprise geodatabases is considered an asset
- Basic cartographic skills and knowledge of GPS data collection
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling deadlines and interruptions while managing conflicting priorities
- Strong attention to detail & willingness to carry out repetitive tasks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain a professional and positive image for the County while associating with internal and external customers and residents
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn on the job and take on new tasks

**Conditions of Employment**

These roles MAY require the following (will be confirmed in the interview process):

- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Personal vehicle for transportation (mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with Strathcona County vehicle allowance policies)
