Overview:
Leon’s is currently looking to fill the role of National Health and Safety Specialist. As a member of our Human Resources team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our National Health and Safety Program, including the administration of health and safety policies and procedures, training and implementation of new initiatives, and ensuring legislative requirements are met or exceeded in all locations across Canada.

**Responsibilities**:

- Implementation and management of national health and safety program
- Development, execution and evaluation of health and safety training
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and WCB/WSIB; ensuring legislative requirements are met or exceeded based on provincial legislation
- Provide professional guidance and support in all WSIB/WCB/CSST matters and disability claims, including modified return to work programs
- Review and make recommendations to resolve workplace health and safety concerns and act on labour board orders; implement corrective actions
- Gather, analyze and report data as required
- Act as a resource for health and safety inquiries; provide sound advice and guidance as needed
- Track and manage organizational compliance (JHSC, training, etc)
- Conduct health and safety audits in locations across the country (travel required) and make revisions to the auditing process as new information becomes available; train and support auditors at various locations across the country
- Promote a proactive safety strategy and ensure worker safety and cost containment for all claims
- Ensure adherence to regulated and documented safety standards in all locations, ensuring inspections, hazard analysis and safety protocols are strictly adhered to
- Manage and update National Health and Safety Manual and all related documents

Qualifications:

- Certificate or Undergraduate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field of study
- Current certified First Aid/CPR
- 3-5 years of progressive work experience in health and safety, preferable with retail warehouse experience
- Thorough working knowledge of relevant provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Human Rights Code of Canada, and standards and guidelines for various provinces
- Understanding of workflow process analysis, accident investigation, work refusal process and risk management principles
- Motivated, well organized and able to make sound decisions
- Superior conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Ability to maintain the utmost discretion and confidentiality
