Position Summary
- The Student Experience Coordinator is responsible for organizing clinical and non-clinical student placements at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, ensuring a positive and educational experience for all students, interns, and trainees. The coordinator works with various hospital departments to support onboarding, placement facilitation, and student learning. This role plays a key part in identifying future talent for the hospital.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the main point of contact for students, academic institutions, and hospital departments, ensuring smooth communication and coordination throughout the placement process.
- Manage all aspects of student placements, including scheduling, obtaining required documentation (agreements, confidentiality forms), and compliance with hospital policies and health and safety regulations.
- In collaboration with the People Services Coordinator, develop and lead the student onboarding and orientation programs to introduce students to hospital policies, safety protocols, and expectations, ensuring a seamless integration into the hospital environment.
- Provide continuous support to students, leaders and preceptors through fostering a positive, inclusive, and educational experience by addressing concerns, offering guidance, and promoting a culture of learning.
- Collaborate with People Services to align student placements with recruitment planning, actively identifying and developing a pipeline of high-potential learners for future talent needs within the hospital. Support the transition of students into active employment with the hospital by strategically integrating recruitment efforts into the placement experience.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with colleges, universities, and professional schools to align student placements with the hospital’s workforce needs and recruitment goals.
- Gather feedback from students, preceptors, and department leaders to assess the quality of placements, using this information to make improvements and enhance future talent development strategies.
- Organize and coordinate student-related events, such as Take our Kids to Work Day, workshops and networking opportunities, to enhance the overall student experience.
- Provides support and collaborates with Medical Affairs and various learner initiatives such as MD2B day and other physician learner support.
- Take on additional duties as required by the direct manager, contributing to the overall success of the student placement program.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the direct manager.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- Post-secondary diploma in Education, Human Resources, Health Administration or related discipline required.
- Additional certification in student services or program management are an asset/
**Experience**:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in program coordination, preferably in an education or health care setting.
- Experience working with students, academic institutions or professional development programs is highly desirable.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Demonstrated exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and leadership, with an emphasis on service-oriented interactions.
- Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment in problem-solving and decision-making, always considering the customer’s perspective.
- Demonstrated high level of professionalism, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
