Position Overview
The Junior Mechanical Technician (Gas Fitter) at HDPI is responsible for building, commissioning and supporting the operation of test rigs, as well as maintaining engine test cells. This position include preventative maintenance of essential support equipment such as natural gas and air compressors, cooling towers, and diesel and hydraulic systems.
Position Responsibilities
- Preventative maintenance of engine dynamometer and test rig support equipment such as natural gas and air compressors, gas equipment, cooling towers, diesel and hydraulic systems, intake and exhaust systems
- Building test rigs in shop and commissioning and supporting their operation
- Building and maintaining all aspects of engine test cells
- Maintaining preventative maintenance logs and data base, records keeping
- Maintaining shop supplies, tools, materials related to test rig and engine operations
- Operation of fork lift and company truck
- Demonstrable shop skills in pipe and tube fitting, welding and fabrication of steel and aluminum, use of powered workshop tools in a safe and efficient manner
- A commitment to safety and excellence in work and organizational habits
- Ability to travel to customer sites world wide if so required

Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Promote HPDI’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
- Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
- Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative

Position Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited trade gas fitting program
- 1-2 years of relevant experience
- Obtain Red Seal certification upon completion of accredited gas fitter program
- Experience with A or B ticket gas installations is preferred
- Plumbing or pipe fitting experience is a plus
- Experience in transportation, High Pressure CNG lines, Hydrogen or mechanical systems is an asset
- Knowledge of Swagelok, MPI or Cone & Thread tubing systems is an asset
- Shop skills using hand and powered tools to assemble pipe and tubing, fabricate, form and weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum are preferred
- Aptitude for diagnosing and repairing problems in fluid systems
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50kgs
- Clean driving license
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills are required: MS Office

Salary Range
This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program. Salary range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills/competencies and experience.
