The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Facility Operator - Tilbury Arena in the Parks, Recreation & Cemeteries division. This posting is open, but preference given to current CUPE 12.1 union members. Job description The Facility Operator (full-time) is responsible for maintenance/repairs of the area arenas, beaches, campground (Clearville Park - Ridgetown only), community halls, indoor pools (Blenheim and Wallaceburg only), outdoor pools, parks, sports fields, etc. Essential responsibilities Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies Operate ice resurfacer and/or other specialized equipment, power tools, cleaning and safety equipment Building security ensuring that policies and procedures are being followed Operate and monitor facility operation systems and records readings in accordance with provincial legislation/regulations Ensure facility scheduling is executed in a prompt and timely manner Maintenance of buildings, arenas, parks and open space areas, including ball diamonds, soccer pitches, skateboard parks, splash pads, pools, grounds etc. Maintain goal posts and nets for sports facilities, including soccer, baseball, softball, tennis and basketball; clean and maintain tennis courts and nets Drag ball fields, lines and prepares fields for games Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various special events Maintain and adjust specialized equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, and tractors Assist with maintaining playground equipment, waste containers, park benches and park buildings, including playground inspections repair and maintenance, and grounds care and building maintenance Sweep, wash, paint, and repair or replace building and park amenities Collect and dispose of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from building and parks areas Perform minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, cleaning, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work; perform routine maintenance on power equipment Perform custodial work such as required and assigned, including: change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweep floors; vacuum carpets; mop; dump garbage cans; clean and sanitize rest rooms and replenish supplies; empty ash cans; clean spills; clean drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, light fixtures, etc.; wash windows, walls, metal and woodwork; clean rain gutters; sweep roofs. Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as required Keep records of work completed Patrols the facility to identify issues, safety hazards or improper operations Responds to requests from patrons and to facility issues and/or maintenance requests Essential qualifications Possess or in the process of obtaining a secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate) Minimum of two years' experience working in an arena facility Knowledge of arena facility operations (including facility automation, security), building maintenance and risk management preferred Ability to handle sensitive situations with innovative thinking, strong problem solving, negotiation and dispute resolution skills and mature judgment Experience/knowledge of arena facility operations Technical expertise in ice making and maintenance; technical knowledge in the operation of refrigeration equipment Maintain current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of ball maintenance functions Mechanical knowledge of facility systems (HVAC, ice refrigeration, dehumidification, lighting) preferred Previous experience performing custodial/janitorial duties Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or other similar software program) All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required Other qualifications Electrical, plumbing, painting, dry walling and carpentry experience is an asset Certifications, memberships, licenses **The following certifications would be an asset**: CIT, Playground certification, CPO Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certified Parks Inspector (CPI) Confined Space certification Chain Saw certification Standard First Aid/CPR certification Automated External Defibrillators (AED) training Propane Handling Class "B" Refrigeration ticket Work environment/hours of work This position works both indoors and outdoors This position works weekday, evening and weekend hours Municipality of Chatham-Kent Vaccination Policy The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a mandatory vaccination policy.
