**Research Assistant-Human Hearing Physiology, Sunnybrook Research Institute**
(Temporary Full-time, one year with option to renew)
The Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking a Temporary Full-time Research Assistant in the Department of Otolaryngology to assist two research teams:
- Andrew Dimitrijevic, investigating diagnostic techniques in the field of hearing science using electrophysiology (brainwaves) in people with cochlear implants.
- Joseph Chen, investigating the quality of life changes associated with cochlear implants and other treatments for hearing impairment
This position involves interacting with patients, performing electroencephalographic (EEG), behavioural and psychological testing.
**Responsibilities**:
- Administrative tasks and assisting with REB submissions.
- EEG data analysis in Matlab, BrainVision Analyzer, and BESA
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of clinical databases.
- Assist with recruitment, screening, enrolling and following participants for research testing.
- Execution of all aspects of study visit (e.g. obtaining informed consent, data collection, EEG and behavioural/psychological testing, follow-up appointments, etc.).
- Conducting semi-structured patient interviews exploring quality of life changes associated with hearing impairment
**Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree in biology, psychology, neuroscience, engineering or a related discipline.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong computer skills (proficiency in Excel)
- Ability to prioritize and work efficiently with a broad range of research protocols
- Keen interest and aptitude in research.
- Enjoy interacting with patients.
- Conscious of the clinical research environment requiring the highest professional integrity.
**Additional assets (not requirements)**:
- Prior Matlab and neurocognitive/behavioural testing results.
- Experience working in medical imaging and/or in a psychology laboratory
- Prior qualitative research experience (conducting / organizing focus groups, interviews).
