Villa Cathay Care Home (VCCH) is a culturally focused non-profit senior care home in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighborhood. **What you’ll do**

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Recreation Leader supports the design and delivery of adult recreational programs at VCCH. This role involves planning and leading activities, promoting participation, guiding residents and families, and supervising program staff and volunteers. As part of the interdisciplinary care team, the Recreation Leader ensures programs align with professional standards, safety protocols, and resident-centered care.

**Key duties and responsibilities**
- Plan, implement, and evaluate recreation programs (e.g., crafts, music, woodworking, exercise, sensory stimulation) to support residents’ physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual well-being.
- Develop program goals and collaborate with physicians and care teams to coordinate group and one-on-one activities.
- Recruit, interview, and provide input into the hiring of recreation assistants and volunteers.
- Support orientation and training of new team members on program expectations, safety, and VCCH protocols.
- Provide daily supervision and direction to Recreation Assistants and volunteers.
- Schedule work assignments, assess performance, and identify training needs.
- Support internal investigations by documenting observations and maintaining confidentiality.
- Collaborate with HR and leadership to address performance or conduct concerns and participate in corrective actions as appropriate.
- Assess resident needs and interests through referrals, interviews, and care plans; set individual recreation goals and document progress.
- Maintain program calendars, source external resources, and adapt activities based on resident abilities.
- Monitor and report on residents’ emotional and social well-being; participate in care conferences and team meetings.
- Track program expenditures, manage inventory, and provide budget input.
- All staff are responsible for following policies and procedures related to resident safety within their scope of practice and ensuring safe and satisfactory outcomes for residents.
- Staff members must participate in safety education and training, understand emergency and disaster management plans, and actively take part in Villa Cathay Care Home’s drills and exercises.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**What you bring**

**Education, Training and Experience**
- Graduation from a recognized recreational program plus three years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes**
- Excellent verbal and written communication; able to adjust messaging to suit the audience.
- Strong interpersonal, team management and conflict resolution skills; able to engage residents across diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Proven leadership and supervisory abilities; fosters a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Skilled in activity adaptation for varying cognitive and physical levels.
- Experience in program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Confident in making timely decisions focused on resident safety and well-being.
- Highly organized with strong time management and team collaboration skills.
- Technically proficient with equipment and software relevant to the role.
- Strong attention to detail and professional work ethic.

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $33.00-$36.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Vancouver, BC V6A 3V1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Work Location: In person
