North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. We offer a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are looking for personable, reliable and responsible staff who identify as a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community to lead a variety of youth &/or adult outdoor programs including hiking at various locations and trails throughout the North Shore.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Meet, greet, and lead Outdoor program participants on 2-hour outings on the North Shore;
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Ensure participants have safe and appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor conditions;
- Plan safe activities both on the water and off including hiking routes that will provide a challenge and enjoyment for participants;
- Timely communication to participants, Programmer and facility staff;
- Report incidents or accidents to direct supervisor;
- Follow procedures relating to operating programs in outdoor settings and working independently.

**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**:

- Work and/or volunteer outdoor experience and hiking in the North Shore Trail system;
- Ability to establish good rapport with participants, public, trail users, co-leaders, facility, and supervisors;
- Experience working with youth and adults;
- Has sound judgement and maturity to work off-site independently and in changing climates and trail conditions.
- Ability to create an entry-level outdoor experience program to provide opportunities for all ability levels.
- A good fitness level
- If not an identifying member of the LGBTQ2S+ community, you possess the ability to make meaningful connections with diverse groups and exhibit knowledge of the issues, needs and concerns of the LGBTQ2S+ community

**ASSETS**
- Education in Outdoor Recreation principles
- Wilderness First Aid

**REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS**:

- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C or willingness to take the course
- HIGH FIVE®- Principles of Healthy Child Development or willingness to take the course

**HOURLY RATE**:The rate of pay for this casual position is $22.88 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates).
