Who We Are

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE), the Environmental Officer assist in ensuring environmental compliance and implementing and maintaining of BGIS Canada ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. The incumbent will work internally and with customers related to environmental objectives, programs, and continuous improvement projects.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides guidance on environmental-related items or issues.
- Maintains ISO14001 registration. Conducts internal system audit and prepares the company for the external re-registration audit annually.
- Assists in the development of the environmental management system and associated policies and processes. Researches related policies and procedures. Drafts according to Director’s recommended policies and procedures.
- Develops environmental compliance training and tools, as required.
- Conducts all legislated environmental reporting on behalf of BGIS Canada and our clients.
- Assists in the development of environmental audit plan and tracks audit results.
- Conducts environmental record audits to ensure compliance with contractual and legislative requirements.
- Assists operations teams with the registration of equipment to meet environmental legislative requirements as needed.
- Conducts root cause analysis and ensures preventative measures are properly in place following any major environmental incident.
- Provides all environmental reporting contractually required by our clients.
- Provides council and guidance on environmental matters to the HSSE team and the greater organization.
- Attends all client environmental compliance meetings, as required.
- Interfaces with Energy & Sustainability team regarding environmental management programs.
- Provides environmental / ISO 14001 training to the other HSSE team members.
- Co-chairs the National HSSE committee.
- Responsible for updating environmental policy based on changes in legislation as well as communicating changes to the organization.
- Interpretation of environmental law / regulations.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Hold a DEP or DEC or equivalent training.
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Have between 3 and 5 years of experience in a similar position.
- Previous experience with facility management services is an asset.
- Knowledge of environment and / or health & safety regulations, both on province-by-province and national levels.
- Knowledge of reporting requirements and thresholds from both a Federal and Provincial standpoint.
- Excellent skills in monitoring process measurement systems, benchmarking and target setting.
- Excellent verbal / written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including a strong understanding of MS Word, MS Excel, & MS Project
- Strong process mapping and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 International Standards for Environment.
- Familiarization with ISO documentation requirements.
- Strong program management skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong business administration skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
