Summer Contract: Peer Support for Young Adult with Special Needs

We are currently seeking **compassionate, flexible, and reliable individuals** to join our team as casual Mentor/Peer Support staff, with the **potential to move into full-time summer positions**.

**Availability Requirements (for full-time summer role)**:

- **June 23-26**: Must be available for onboarding and initial training.
- **July 1-27**: Must be available up to **40 hours per week**:

- **After July 27**: Shifts will transition to **Fridays**, select **evenings**, and **every other weekend**, averaging approximately **25-32 hours per week**.

**Position Overview**:
This contract role involves supporting a **23-year-old male with developmental disabilities and a seizure disorder**. As a Mentor/Peer Support, you'll play a key role in enhancing his quality of life through meaningful connection, life skill development, and recreational engagement—both at home and within the community. The client presents with strong, manipulative behaviors and requires consistent, structured support. This is a behavior-focused support position, and experience managing challenging behavior is highly valued.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate engaging social and recreational activities
- Support life skill development in a positive and respectful manner
- Provide personal care assistance as needed
- Build and maintain a strong, supportive relationship
- Navigate complex personality traits with patience, consistency, and professionalism
- Communicate clearly with strong enunciation and active listening

**Required Qualifications**:

- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Valid SK Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (client resides on an acreage outside Martensville)
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Current First Aid & CPR certification

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- 1+ year experience in a related field (e.g., support work, education, recreation)
- Educational background in Developmental Services or a related discipline
- Experience working with individuals who display strong or manipulative personalities, using positive reinforcement strategies
- Willingness to use own vehicle to transport the client (mileage may be discussed)
- PART Training (or willingness to obtain)
