Smythe LLP is seeking an experienced Controller to join our future-focused firm in our downtown Vancouver office.

**The Opportunity**

We have an exciting opportunity for a self-starter to join the Smythe team. Working directly with the CFO, you will help deliver valuable insights to the firm’s leadership that will drive strategic growth and initiatives. The Controller also ensures the firm’s financial well-being through expert oversight of budgeting, risk management and core financial activities. **Responsibilities**
- _Financial Reporting_ - Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and operational metrics on a monthly and annual basis.
- _Financial Analysis_ - Conduct financial analyses to support decision-making, identify trends and provide meaningful insights into financial performance and variances.
- _Budgeting and Forecasting_ - Develop and manage the firm’s budget and provide quarterly financial forecasts to guide strategic planning.
- _Cash Flow Management_ - Monitor and manage cash flows to ensure sufficient liquidity while minimizing financing costs.
- _Internal Controls_ - Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- _Process Improvement and Automation_ - Streamline accounting processes and integrate automation where appropriate, ensuring the most effective use of team resources.
- _Accounting Operations_ - Supervise core accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- _Financial Systems_ - Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software.
- _Tax Compliance_ - Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- _Team Leadership_ - Lead and develop the Finance Team, providing meaningful performance management to ensure the team is productive and engaged.
- _Strategic Initiatives_ - Collaborate on the firm’s strategic initiatives, providing support for non-finance related projects and leading finance-related projects when required.

**Qualifications**
- Professional accounting designation in good standing and a minimum of 3 years as a Controller or similar senior finance role.
- Detail-oriented, with an ability to plan and manage multiple processes, people, and projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates leadership with an ability to learn quickly, be proactive, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Proven management skills in developing an accounting team and effective mentoring and coaching skills.
- Effective communication skills, able to clearly and concisely present issues, ideas, and data analysis to senior leaders.
- Experience with SAP, and time and billing software would be preferred.
