The Food and Beverage Department of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires a Full-Time Assistant Manager.

Reporting to the Manager, Food & Beverage, the purpose of this role is to assist in building a strong customer service-oriented Food & Beverage team through the day-to-day management of the Food & Beverage Department operations in relation to the corporate strategic plan at the World Trade Center, Ag Center, and seasonal activities such as the Spudnut Hut, Beer Gardens, and Bourbon Barrel BBQ. The Assistant Manager will also work with Client Services and the Operations Departments to secure business and identify customer requirements; and assist in establishing a strategic direction for the Food & Beverage Department.

The role is 40 hours per week and the work schedule will vary week to week depending upon the events schedule and additional hours may be required. Day, evening, and weekend shifts will be required.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Assist in the review and analysis of Food & Beverage Department activities and support development and implementation of long-term and short-term plans following the direction of the Corporate Strategic Plan.
- Assist in the identification of opportunities to improve efficiency for the Food & Beverage Department and the implementation of approved plans including cash control policies and procedures.
- Assist in the review, development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development of the Food & Beverage departmental budgets including projecting sales, operating costs, capital costs, breakdown of revenues and expenses to establish projected sales, variable costs, projected costs and profit and loss calculations.
- Assist in monitoring budget: review monthly statements to ensure accuracy, review and approve incoming bills, prepare customer bills, analyze deviations from budget, explore variances and address problems, and make recommendations on appropriate changes or adjustments to ensure budget is met.
- Assist in the maintenance of inventory control policies, procedures, and record control systems (security, internal requisitions, schedule for counting inventory, par stock and production levels, maintenance of storage areas, monitoring of purchasing procedures and monitoring of receiving procedures).
- Assist in the completion of office related records (payroll, personnel, Workers Compensation, maintenance, and inventory).
- Assist in the purchase of equipment and supplies.
- Monitor department activities to ensure departmental policies and safety procedures are being adhered to, address WCB incidents, and follow-up to address problems as necessary.
- Assist in the implementation of department policies and procedures and ensure health and safety legislation is being complied with relating to the storage of food and beverage products, and follow-up to address problems as necessary.
- In the event of an emergency, lead staff in following emergency guidelines.
- Monitor premises to identify potential security problems and report problems to appropriate personnel to be addressed.
- Monitor detail sheets to ensure functions/events are set up to meet customer specifications and Prairieland quality standards.
- Monitor activities during functions/events to identify potential customer service problems during events and report problems to appropriate personnel to be addressed.
- Assist in evaluating competition and developing promotions, programs, and services in response to competition and to build corporate business.
- Participate with Food & Beverage staff and Client Services to assist customers in planning events and functions.
- Network with industry personnel, suppliers, etc. to promote Prairieland to clients and potential clients.
- Assist in the training and development of Food & Beverage staff to deliver first-rate customer services as outlined in the Corporate Strategic Plan and assist in employee performance and review.
- Ensure staff are scheduled in a timely manner and according to Corporate Policies and Provincial Labour Standards legislation.
- Assist Human Resources with conflict resolution and employee performance issues.
- Ensure supervisors and staff comply with applicable legislation: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety and address any problems.
- Coach and mentor supervisors and staff in Food & Beverage Department.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

**Qualifications & Requirements**:

- Minimum 3 to 5 years supervisory and management experience in the food and beverage industry; including experience with banquets and fine dining.
- Knowledge of various service styles: banquet, lounge/bar, concession, restaurant/buffet and fine dining.
- Knowledge of common commercial kitchen equipment, food preparation terms, cooking methods, basic bar terms, meat cuts, fish and shellfish, poultry, beverages (wine, beer, liquor), and catering terms.
