**Job description** **Reports to**:Service Coordinator **Location**: Kamloops, BC **Position Title**: Personal Support Worker **Overall Responsibility**: Providing personalized 24-hour in-home support for an independent adult male with diverse abilities on a rotational schedule. **Employment Type**: Full-time, Permanent **Schedule**: 24-hour shifts 4 days on, 4 days off (9 am to 9 am) **Overview**: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide care and assistance to an individual with diverse abilities who lives in his own homes. As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of the persons we support. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to perform various duties related to personal care, behavioural management and home support. Note: This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position. It is not exhaustive or comprehensive. The responsibilities and qualifications mentioned above may vary depending on the specific needs of the individual being supported. **24-hour Shifts**: This position is considered a "Live-In" position per the BC Employment Standards Act. Support Workers are not expected to be awake throughout the night (aside from emergencies) and are provided a staff room/bed to sleep in. If the individual required assistance overnight, the support worker would be expected to provide essential support when needed. **Compensation**: IMLKS offers competitive wages and benefits, covers meals during shifts, and mileage is reimbursed upon submission. IMLKS also offers training and development opportunities for its employees. **Key Areas of Responsibility**: - Providing a safe and nurturing environment - Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure the well-being of clients - Provide support and assistance to individuals in their daily activities at home and in the community - Assisting a person with challenging behaviors through preventative measures and techniques for de-escalation - Assist with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and grooming - Administer medications according to prescribed schedules - Help with meal preparation and ensure dietary needs are met - Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment - Provide companionship and engage in meaningful activities with clients - Monitor and report any changes in client's condition or behavior - Presenting the individual in a positive and respectable manner - Promoting independence - Assisting the individual with recreational activities and encouraging their participation in community events - Navigating emergency situations when they arise **Skills and Attributes**: - Open-minded attitude - Crisis management Skills - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Dedication for promoting personal growth in one’s life - Strong ability to work in an independent setting as well as part of a team - Proficient decision-making skills - Ability to navigate stressful situations and remain calm - Ability to work one on one with an individual who has challenging behaviours - Compassionate and caring nature - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail **Job Requirements**: - Must be comfortable supporting an individual with behavioural challenges - Valid First Aid Certificate *Can be obtained during the training period* - Clear Criminal Record Check *Processed within our office - Medical clearance form completed by a physician - Driver's License - Safe Driving History - TB test (to be completed within the probationary period) - Must be able to work 24-hour shifts 4 days on, 4 days off - **we cannot work around school schedules**: - Must be able to provide verification of a minimum of 2 doses of an approved vaccination for COVID-19 - Completion of 2 work-related references **Experience**: - Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is preferred - Familiarity with assisted living, home care, nursing home, youth or senior care settings - Experience supporting individuals who have challenging behaviors with patience and empathy This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of other individuals.
