**The Role**:
Assists Nutritionist with and occasionally leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of healthy eating and food skills development initiatives. Supports management staff in the advocacy, development, and implementation of healthy public policy; and creates and delivers related training, presentations, workshops, and resources.
**Duties/Responsibilities**:
Plans and prepares healthy eating and food skills resources (e.g. teaching kits, educational resources), based on content provided by Nutritionist, for a range of audiences (e.g., Regional staff, staff and students of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions, health professionals, workplace representatives, local food vendors, municipalities, community partners, priority populations, general public).
Provides consultation regarding the planning and implementation of awareness raising, environmental supports, and policy initiatives to promote healthy eating and/or food skills by providing resources and/or advice based on content provided by Nutritionists, with a range of stakeholders (e.g., Regional staff, staff and students of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions, health professionals, workplace representatives, local food vendors, municipalities, community partners, priority populations, general public).
Creates and delivers train-the-trainer modules on healthy eating and/or food skills, based on content provided by Nutritionists, to a range of audiences (e.g., Regional staff, staff and students of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions, health professionals, workplace representatives, local food vendors, municipalities, community partners, priority populations, general public).
Monitors food affordability in the region by carrying out nutritious food basket costing and reporting, in accordance with Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) Nutritious Food Basket and Population Health Assessment and Surveillance Protocols, 2008 (or current), with assistance from dietetic interns.
Provides advice and information to community members and develops or researches resources to connect community members and other stakeholders with healthy eating and food skills development programs and services.
Participates as part of an interdisciplinary staff team to develop, implement, and evaluate social marketing campaigns; develop and prepare press releases and media kits; and deliver radio, television, and newspaper interviews.
Develops and delivers workshops and presentations across the community to promote healthy eating and food skills development, based on content provided by Nutritionists. Ensures the safety of food and training locations provided by monitoring food preparation, expiry dates, and facility conditions.
Provides input to divisional operational plans and maintains knowledge of current healthy eating and food skills development research, best practices, and health status information to participate in same.
Participates with section staff in setting overall healthy eating and food skills initiatives and priorities as well as developing Healthy Eating & Active Communities operational plans, logic models, and work plans.
Assists Public Health Nutritionists and Planners to research and prepare grant proposals to support work plan priorities and enhance section programming. Assists same in researching, monitoring, updating, and translating relevant nutrition information, theories, and models to ensure currency, clarity, and understandability.
Provides research and administrative support to section staff, and local, provincial, and federal partners regarding healthy public policy, environmental supports, and community infrastructure strategies.
Assists Public Health Nutritionists, Planners, and community partners to develop and implement program or initiative evaluation plans. Provides assistance to same in the compilation, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of evaluation results.
Participates in and occasionally chairs or facilitates meetings with other nutrition staff and the Nutrition Practice Committee.
Participates in the preparation of program reports for management and Community Services Committee regarding various healthy eating and food skills development initiatives by providing content
