Detailed Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Clinical Substance Use Counsellor provides assessments, brief interventions, and comprehensive therapy; and referral services for trauma impacted women experiencing issues related to substance use and/or addictions and/or concurrent disorders. Provides services to clients such as educational services, counselling and group therapy in accordance with Alcohol and Drug Service's ethical standards and the Fraser Health Authority's Mission, Vision and Values. Participates in Child Protection planning when necessary. Responsibilities:

- Provides clinical assessment, relationship building, counselling, treatment goal setting, relapse prevention, conflict resolution and referral services to individuals and groups. Provides comprehensive therapy in compliance with the Alcohol and Drug Service ethical standards on cases on issues including violence, sexual abuse or mental illness, individual or group setting utilizing a variety of clinically sound psychotherapeutic techniques.
- Assesses clients following clinically sound assessment procedures to determine voluntary, involuntary or pre-contemplative client needs; establishes and evaluates risk indicators to determine the need for referral.
- Consults with clients and other such as families, Maxxine Wright multi-disciplinary team, and community and other referral resources as appropriate for further and/or alternate specialized services such as daytox or intensive treatment.
- Formulates and implements treatment plans through methods such as motivating and assisting clients in developing and reaching treatment goals, collaborating with multidisciplinary team, and evaluating goals while maintaining respect for client dignity and maximum client self-determination and independence.
- Maintains client records by documenting client assessments, charting client information, preparing progress notes and reports in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures of the Health Centre to meet regulatory requirements, documenting for future reference and disclosure of information and records are in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
- Provides prevention services by identifying ongoing prevention needs within the community, participating in relevant internal and external committees; and leading and contributing to community development and prevention activities with other stakeholders/partners.
- Initiates and participates in individual professional development; maintains current knowledge and skills in relation to substance use, dual diagnosis and women/ family issues.
- Assists in orientation and training of new staff and provides education for internal FH Programs, and local/ regional communities on substance use as requested.
- Participates in the development and evaluation of Health Centre programs through methods such as collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
