**Job Summary**:
We are seeking a hardworking, personable, detail-oriented and efficient _**Assistant Manager**_ to support and complement the General Manager in providing “best-in-province” onsite beverage container return depot operations and services to the public; along with providing internal leadership, motivation and supervision of a staff team of 24. This person will also take on the new role of _**Collection Services Director**_ and develop and grow, manage, and implement our off-site container collection (van pickup) services to schools, clubs and commercial customers. The successful applicant will have superior interpersonal skills and a strong but friendly and confident personality, a thorough understanding of all procedures, standards, and operational requirements of the Alberta BCR Regulation and the policies and regulations of the Beverage Container Management Board. He/She should have directly relevant experience in materials handling logistics, staff supervision and team management (ideally in an Alberta Bottle Depot), and marketing and promotion of customer services.
**Key Responsibilities - Assistant Manager Role - approximately 50% of FTE**:
- Manage Depot Operations on scheduled days including assign and coordinate staff, and ensure efficient allocation of labour and prompt and friendly customer service and processing of containers
- Coordinate with the General Manager and share in staff hiring, training, evaluation and continuous improvement of staff performance and documentation of same, and in staff scheduling and last-minute staffing adjustments to ensure the appropriate level of labour for operations
- Take on active work assignments alongside other staff, lead by example and demonstrate excellence in hands-on operations for front and back operations to other staff
- Actively monitor individual and collective staff performance and provide constructive feedback and coaching as appropriate
- Identify quickly and address customer concerns or complaints professionally, and resolve conflicts in a fair and firm but non-confrontational manner, and similarly handle inappropriate customer treatment of staff or other customers
- Maintain necessary records and reports as required for tracking internal financial and operation performance and for external invoicing, and reporting
- Lead daily opening and closing of the depot on scheduled days, including cash out and inventory and daily reports
- Ensure all MBD health and safety policies and procedures and all employee human rights and protection policies and procedures are communicated, understood, and followed
- Meet regularly with the General Manager and Executive Manager of Operations and contribute to problem-solving, conflict resolution and continuous improvement of operations and financial performance
- Other assistant manager duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time
**Key Responsibilities - Collection Services Director - approximately 50% of FTE**:
- **Marketing and Promotion**:develop and lead a Marketing and communication strategyto specifiedmarket segments of bulk / large volume customers for van pickup services, and bottle drive and fundraiser services
- **Client Relations**: Serve as the main point of contact for pick-up service and bottle drive and fundraiser services customers. Determine best service package or customization needed; Address any concerns and maintain strong client relationships.
- **Schedule and Manage Pick-ups**: develop and coordinate collection schedules, plan and optimize collection routes to maximize efficiency and reduce operational costs; Oversee collection and transportation of beverage containers ensuring all processes are carried out efficiently and on schedule.
- **Lead Driver and Team Leadership**: Serve as the primary driver during start-up stage then supervise, train, and support other drivers and field team labour responsible for collecting and sorting beverage containers. Ensure field labour and tasks are integrated with depot back-end operations for staff scheduling and for maximum efficiency.
- **Health & Safety Compliance**: Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of all staff involved, customers and the public.
- **Clean Driving Abstract**: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract to ensure safe and reliable operation of company vehicles.
- **Reporting & Analysis**: Monitor operational performance metrics, prepare regular reports on collection volumes, efficiency, and costs, and present insights to senior management for continuous improvement.
- **Vehicle Care**:ensure daily vehicle inspection and tracking is conducted in accordance with company policies and all issues are corrected or addressed promptly
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**: Post-secondary education in business, marketing, logistics, or related field required.
