**AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
The Program Support Worker is responsible for supporting the effective and efficient service and administration of Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre Child & Family Services activities and administration, in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures.

The Program Support Worker is responsible for working directly with children, youth, and their families in order to promote, strengthen and to develop their potential. This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, and coordinate services and support in consultation with individuals and their families. This role will also respect and protect the rights of clients.

The Program Support Worker will be responsible for planning and implementing programs and services for families with children between the ages of birth to eighteen years of age. The Program Support Worker must ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and youth in accordance with relevant federal, provincial, and internal Friendship Centre policies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Preferred Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent in Social Service or Education fields and/or a minimum of two years’ work experience.
- Knowledge of child development theories and practices, determinants of health, and supportive, preventative programming.
- Ability to effectively interact and relate to children, youth, and their families in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children and youth are supervised and safe at all times.
- Ability to lift / carry children and ability to supervise children and youth required.
- Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) considered an asset.
- Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills.
- Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative.
- Effective crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate and Safe Food Handling certification is an asset.
- A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) will be a condition of employment
