**JOB TITLE: ESL Monitor**

**JOB OVERVIEW**

The Centre Linguistique del Cégep de Jonquière is excited to host its annual Explore Ottawa program this summer. Explore Ottawa is an intensive, three-week-long English language program for youth aged 13-15 from Quebec. In 2025 we are running two sessions, **from June 29th to August 8th**. We are looking for dynamic and responsible staff with excellent communication skills who are able to connect with youth and engage them in fun and safe activities on campus and around Ottawa.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Organize an afternoon workshop for 15-20 students in one of these topics: arts and crafts, theatre, film club, dance, creative writing, or science & technology.
- Supervise students on afternoon outings around Ottawa
- Supervise students on Saturday trips to Gatineau Park and Upper Canada Village
- Encourage student participation in all activities in English
- Ensure students follow program rules and address misbehavior by giving appropriate warnings when necessary.
- Collaborate with team members on a regular basis
- Assist students in their overall adjustment to the program and direct them to appropriate staff members when necessary as well as notify administrative staff of any issues needing attention
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings & orientation

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Be 18 years or older
- Be available from June 23rd to August 8th
- Strong leadership skills, common sense, and lots of initiative
- Enthusiastic, kind, patient, mature, good sense of humour
- Good English language skills, able to communicate with students with different English levels
- Able to work by yourself and with others to organize activities and accomplish tasks
- You have 1 or 2 skills that you could teach to others in a workshop. Examples include: making crafts, writing, playing sports, improv, dance, etc.)
- Able to work flexible hours during the program duration, mostly weekday afternoons and Saturdays.

**ADDITIONAL ASSETS**

If you have any of these skills, please include them in your resume:

- Past experience working with youth
- Past experience in a language immersion program, such as Explore
- Coaching or teaching experience
- French language knowledge

**JOB DETAILS**

**Position**:ESL Student Monitor

**Salary**: $19.50 per hour

**Job Duration**: Training on the week of June 23 to June 28 (20h) and 6 weeks of Explore Program from June 30 to August 8 (30-35h/ week)

**Location**: Algonquin College, 1385 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K2G 1V8

**NOTE -** All staff will complete a Police Record Check for people working with the Vulnerable Sector and a First Aid Couse. Let us know if you already fulfill these requirements.
