Life Enrichment Aide

Participate in planning, implementing and evaluating a wide range of programs in the home according to resident needs
- Complete resident assessments and establish goals and interventions based on the residents identified needs
- Complete documentation related to programming including but not limited to assessment, MDS attendance, progress notes, care plans and quarterly reviews
- Effectively communicate and promote all programs offered by the home i.e. create posters, advertisements, etc.
- Decorate appropriately for seasonal events, special events, and holidays
- Support and effectively utilize volunteer resources in the provision of programs;
- Maintain open line of communication between Residents, family members and staff
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Support Pastoral Care Services, Palliative Care and the activities of the Resident’s Council
- Any other duties which from time to time may be assigned, within the scope of abilities and qualifications
- Participates in committees and meetings as directed
- Participates in development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the MRFS
- Participates in development of new or revised program plans
- Promotes social interaction among residents in the following ways: assumes leadership of assigned activities or special events, assists new residents with orientation to the building and to the recreation program, and introduces them to the others within the residence, promotes conversation and social interaction among residents
- Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding resident interaction and documentation of feedback, issues and concerns
Skills/Education Required
- Grade 12 mandatory
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field of study, or enrollment in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field, is mandatory
- Computer proficiency is required
- Safe Food handlers certificate preferred
- Experience in Gerontology preferred
- Experience in Long Term Care an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Excellent knowledge of body mechanics and lifting techniques
- Effective leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of leisure principles
- Strong public speaking and communication skills required
- Must be able to set priorities and meet time and calendar deadlines as workload may fluctuate as resident needs and occupancy change
