Assistant Manager, Athletic Therapy

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Responsible for managing the prevention, immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by student athletes competing on behalf of Carleton University Athletics. Also, responsible to hire, train, and manage, the schedule and evaluate a professional part-time staff of certified therapists, and at times student therapists to assist in the coverage of practices, competition, and clinical treatments. Manages and sets the standard of care to all Varsity and Club Teams through field coverage (home and away) and in-clinic treatment with a medically trained staff with diversified level of expertise. Responsible for the administration, management, and procedures of the Athletic Therapy clinic. Works in partnership with Manager of Performance and Sport Science to deliver elite level care and holistic support for the growth and development of student-athletes and is part of the Integrated Support Team (IST).
**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge in creating a positive, inclusive and safe environment.
- Experience in managing a team environment with the ability to empower staff to develop autonomy and accountability for decision-making.
- Knowledge and ability to collect and analyze data as it relates to injury trends and performance.
- Knowledge of the Canadian University Sport structure and system and the demands experienced by student-athletes.
- Ability to work autonomously and with others in an environment that requires quick decision that protect the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
- A high degree of independence, allowing to develop flexibly, quickly, and appropriately.
- A proven ability to elicit and foster trust, develop positive working relationships, and work effectively with other allied health professionals.
- Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and solid decision-making.
- Strong organizational skills and time management abilities are essential. The incumbent must be result oriented, assuming responsibility for development, implementation, and completion of projects/initiatives.
- Interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate and interact with people by working co-operatively, coordinating with others, interacting with people of diverse backgrounds and interests both within and beyond the university community, ability to work as a member of a team, consider the frequency and necessity of interaction, as well as the level of difficulty and the skill required.
- Up to date knowledge of industry standards.
**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Four-year Honor’s degree from a university. Preferred will be one to three years of post-graduate specialization/professional designation/certification of an accredited program specializing in the field of Athletic Therapy.
- Certified Athletic Therapist credentials through the Canadian Athletic Therapist’s Association (CATA) and Ontario Athletic Therapy Association (OATA) or Sports Physiotherapist Certified Level 2.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training annually
- Training in dealing with mental health is an asset.
- Minimum 3 years working with high performance athletes, or within the high-performance sport system
