Athabasca County is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced **Fleet Supervisor** to lead the maintenance, operation, and lifecycle management of our diverse fleet. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a certified Heavy Equipment Technician with a strong background in fleet operations, staff supervision, and safety compliance.
Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the Fleet Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily fleet operations and ensuring regulatory compliance and high performance of vehicles and equipment. The role includes budgeting, procurement planning, preventive maintenance, and promoting a strong safety culture across operations.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Plan, direct, and oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of fleet vehicles, including heavy equipment, light-duty vehicles, and small engine repairs.
- Supervise and schedule a team of personnel; provide leadership, training, and performance management.
- Administer and monitor fleet management systems to track maintenance schedules, fuel usage, equipment lifespan, and work orders.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs; ensure compliance with Alberta Transportation safety standards and internal policies.
- Collaborate with departments to identify operational needs and ensure vehicle and equipment availability.
- Manage procurement and disposal of vehicles and equipment, including cost analysis, tender preparation, and vendor coordination.
- Support County initiatives related to environmental sustainability and fuel efficiency.
- Oversee fueling infrastructure and ensure proper handling and inventory of supplies and parts.
- Maintain and evaluate records of service, repairs, inspections, and operating costs to support budgeting and asset management.
- Prepare and administer the fleet services budget; monitor expenditures and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
- Promote a culture of health and safety; ensure compliance with OH&S standards, lead safety inspections and incident investigations within the department.
**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**
- Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician or equivalent journeyperson certification required.
- Fleet Management software experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in fleet maintenance and repair, including 3 or more years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience with public sector procurement and equipment lifecycle planning.
- In-depth knowledge of gas and diesel engine systems, hydraulic systems, diagnostics, and municipal service equipment.
- Familiarity with Alberta OH&S legislation and Transportation Compliance Standards.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to lead a team, resolve conflicts, and build effective working relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance software.
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions and perform inspections and evaluations in the field.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $94,214.00-$117,842.00 per year
