Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health and Safety Coordinator for Metro Infrastructure is responsible employee safety as their #1 priority: for the maintenance implementation, communication and coordination of all health, and safety programs for Metro Infrastructure. This position develops and provides technical and administrative direction on all Health and Safety decisions, which have critical importance to Metro Infrastructures goals, objectives and operations and offers growth expansion to H&S Manager as well as team building/associates.
Education and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- Possess a minimum of two (2) years experience in the Health and Safety field with a focus in construction/ telecommunication industry
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Construction Projects, WHMIS Regulation, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, The Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and COR Internal Auditor
- Valid G driver's license with good driving record
- Valid Certification JHSC Members Certificate would be considered asset
- Excellent meeting/training facilitation, communication and English written skills
- Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Possess the ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team
- “COR” Health and Safety management experience within a heavy construction company would be considered an asset
- Directly oversees the Early and Safety Return to Work Program as well as Permanent Accommodation related to medical, modified work programs, budget impact etc. This program relates to WSIB injuries and illnesses, short term sick time, long term disability and other personal insurance programs.
- Experience in a unionized environment
Responsibilities Include
- Safety orientation, job site inspections and accident/injury reports.
- Organize and conduct training programs including but not limited to: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid.
- Monitor employees on-site to ensure compliance to safety procedures and escalate issues to resolution.
- Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and take necessary measures to correct them and you have the ability to delegate and influence others to follow safety rules and regulations
- Support the coordination, organization and delivery of project toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Verify compliance with leading and lagging
- Monitor employees on-site to ensure compliance to safety procedures and escalate issues to resolution
- Conduct the HS&E Orientation to employees and subcontractors during project onboarding
- Work directly with the H&S Management team and Field employees to facilitate the understanding of Health and Safety initiatives - including working cooperatively with the CEO on issues relating to loss claims
- May perform other duties as required
**Possess a minimum of two (2) years experience in the Health and Safety field with a focus in construction/ telecommunication industry *Note preference will be awarded to those with related experience**
Up to date knowledge of:
*Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Construction Projects
*WHMIS Regulation
*Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
*The Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7
**Valid G driver's license with clean driving abstract**
Valid Certification JHSC Members Certificate would be considered asset
**Excellent meeting/training facilitation, communication and English written skills**
Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
**Possess the ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team**
“COR” Health and Safety management experience within a heavy construction company would be considered an asset

**Salary**: $47,500.00-$70,000.00 per year
