The Department of Public Service Delivery is seeking qualified individuals to fill several Estate Officer positions within the Public Guardian and Trustee Branch under Consumer Protection Division.
The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba (PGT) is a provincial government Special Operating Agency that manages the affairs of Manitobans who are unable to do so themselves and have no one else willing or able to act on their behalf, as well as administers the estates of individuals residing in Manitoba who have died and who have no one else to act as administrator or executor. The PGT also manages trust money on behalf of individuals under the age of 18 as well as those who are under a legal disability. In addition, the PGT manages the personal and financial affairs of individuals who are incompetent to make independent decisions or who live with intellectual disabilities.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:
- Post-secondary education specializing in law, business administration or accounting. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Experience administering the estates and trusts of living or deceased individuals.
- Experience locating persons, preferably heirs and beneficiaries, and proving identity.
- Strong problem-solving and decision making skills to navigate sensitive and/or confidential issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments and a variety of stakeholders.
- Effective verbal communication skills to clearly and professionally communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effective written communication skills with experience drafting and editing correspondence or other communications.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and effectively manage deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
**Duties**:
Under the direction of the Manager of Estates and Trusts, the incumbent will manage a caseload of average to complex deceased estates and trusts in accordance with the Public Guardian and Trustee's established policies and procedures and in compliance with appropriate legislation. This includes identifying assets and debts of the deceased, securing and liquidating assets, negotiating and paying claims against the estate, identifying legal and taxation issues and making appropriate referrals. The incumbent is also responsible for performing complex heir searches, contracting with genealogists and researchers, and making recommendations regarding distribution of estates and trusts.
