Within the context of a resident focused setting, provides reception duties for
**George Derby Centre**, updating admission, discharge and transfer system; types material utilizing word processing software; and receives and sorts mail in accordance with established procedures.

**JOB DUTIES**:

- 1. Provides reception duties for George Derby Centre by performing duties such as greeting visitors; maintaining visitor sign-in log; operating switchboard; and responding to general enquiries from residents/visitors related to the Centre in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- 2. Updates admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) system by entering resident personal information as received; processing changes noted on daily census such as new admission, transfers to hospital, room changes, discharges or deaths; puts flag to half-mast upon Veteran’s passing; and runs standard statistical reports from ADT as required.
- 3. Actively promotes a culture of resident safety by adhering to established safety policies, standards and procedures including emergency procedures.
- 4.Gathers and enters data on new admissions by methods such as receiving resident referral and pre-admission data; entering demographic and classification data into ADT system. Creates chart number for patient chart and prints resident door label; greets new residents and notifies Nurse in Charge.
- 5.Receives, sorts and distributes resident and departmental mail by performing duties such as opening, date stamping, and distributing items to appropriate personnel; stamps and processes outgoing mail utilizing the postage meter and completes any special postal requirements i.e. special delivery and registered mail as directed.
- 6. Receives and processes lost and found articles by methods such as receiving lost items; entering information into log book; placing articles into the lost and found box; posting notices of all lost and found items in designated areas; and forwarding valuable items to Finance for safe keeping.
- 7. Types material such as general correspondence, envelopes and labels from written draft/instruction by operating word processing software; checks typed material to ensure information has been reproduced accurately.
- 8. Reports hazards, unusual occurrences, accidents and unsafe situations to immediate supervisor or designate.
- 9. Photocopies, faxes and distributes material for various departmental staff by receiving items for duplication and operating photocopying or facsimile machine.
- 10. Files various items such as invoices, reports and forms by following established filing procedures.
- 11. Monitors Wanderguard residents and assists visitors when leaving.
- 12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

**SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- 1. Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in the work environment.
- 2. Reports all incidents and near misses. Reports are to be made in writing.
- 3. Report all concerns related to resident behaviours; even if no incident/injury occurs. Reports are to be made in writing.
- 4. Follow safe work procedures and act safely in the workplace at all times.
- 5. Actively participate in all training provided to you for your safety.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training and Experience**

Grade 12 plus two years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Ability to type 50 wpm.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
