As a self-regulatory organization, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) takes its responsibility of setting high-quality regulatory and investment industry standards seriously, while protecting investors and supporting healthy capital markets in Canada.

The Manager, Translation manages an internal team of experienced translators and revisors who translate, mainly from English to French, documents of a regulatory, financial or administrative nature, for distribution both inside and outside the organization. The Manager, Translation also manages the relationships with various external suppliers and ensures the proper execution of projects. The incumbent is responsible for the strategic direction of the department’s operations, the team’s day-to-day activities, as well as the overall translation budget. More generally, the incumbent supports CIRO in meeting its obligations as a bilingual organization that provides high-quality communications to its members and its general readership.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Inform all stakeholders of the official bilingual status of CIRO and the language requirements set out in the Recognition Orders issued by the Canadian Securities Administrators
- Oversee the general quality of the French language texts produced throughout the organization
- Perform the administrative duties connected with managing the department’s human resources
- Maintain close ties with the heads of the different groups within the organization to facilitate service delivery and goal achievement
- Keep tabs on upcoming and current projects within the organization and make the necessary connections regarding translation needs
- Keep abreast of activities and regulatory changes in the Canadian securities industry in order to properly orient the team’s activities
- Revise or validate certain translations done by internal or external translators, including: rule amendments or proposals, high-profile, strategic or regulatory documents, executive speeches and other documents of a sensitive or complex nature
- Assess any risks associated with the translation and publication of the organization’s documents into French
- Manage relationships with external suppliers, review contracts, negotiate fees and oversee the quality of the work performed
- Provide translation certificates for regulatory projects, as needed
- Establish and manage the translation budget

**Education and Experience**
- University degree in translation
- Certification in translation and membership in OTTIAQ
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the financial sector, including at least 10 years in translation and revision positions and 5 years in the management of translation teams
- Excellent knowledge of capital markets and securities terminology
- The Canadian Securities Course or other courses in finance, law or securities, an asset

- Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and processes of translation and revision in order to fully understand the reality of translators and the challenges inherent in the translation function
- Very good analytical skills and a strong aptitude for making connections between the organization’s activities, the dealer members and capital markets’ activities, and the applicable regulations, in order to identify trends and properly direct the team’s activities
- Great ability to synthesize and provide Management with an overview of the translation work in progress, while highlighting points of interest
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; tact and ability to interact with people at all levels
- Excellent sense of organization: ability to set priorities and to complete many different tasks requiring a high degree of concentration within the same day
- Sense of initiative and good judgment in forecasting needs and obtaining information
- Positive team spirit and leadership
- Strong listening skills
- Mastery of French and English, both spoken and written
- Ability to work under pressure
- Motivation, autonomy, rigor and self-discipline
- Good knowledge of technology tools (translation memories, translation project management systems (e.g. FlowFit), MS Office suite, Webex or other virtual meeting platforms, etc.)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times
