**Job Summary**
- Serving Maritime Canada, the Faculty of Medicine enables excellence in health care through education and research programs in partnership with government, health authorities and health care providers. The Office of Community Engagement takes a collaborative approach to build leadership within the Dalhousie community to advance diversity, equity, community engagement, global health education and international partnerships. Reporting to the Director, Office of Community Engagement, the Manager, Promoting Leadership in Health for African Nova Scotians (PLANS), provides leadership in the design, development, oversight, implementation and evaluation of the PLANS program in the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Design, implement, and evaluate initiatives that encourage careers in health and medicine among African Nova Scotian students, spanning elementary through high school.
- Provide advising to students and prospective students regarding academic enrichment opportunities, scholarship information, admissions, and issues impacting academic performance. Refer students to appropriate campus supports.
- Develop, coordinate, and monitor mentorship programs for Black medical students, ensuring alignment with academic and professional development goals.
- Provide insight on matters related to African Nova Scotian students for members of Faculty of Medicine’s admission committees, interview panels and support staff.
- Collaborate with the African Nova Scotian Advisory Committee to create and implement strategies for the recruitment and retention of ANS students and faculty within the Faculty of Medicine.
- Develop and manage annual work plans, measurable outcomes, and evaluation frameworks to ensure program success and continuous improvement.

**Note**

Some evening and weekend hours are occasionally required.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree plus a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field such as coordinating programs (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Knowledge of the issues and concerns facing African Nova Scotian communities with regards to access to post-secondary education.
- Student advising experience, including the ability to support different types of needs, ranging from broad navigation of the university experience to specific academic and cultural needs.
- Ability to lead groups and work as part of a team, prioritize work and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
