**Job Title**:Summer Child and Youth Worker
- Working with and supervising at-risk children and youth
- Implementing daily recreational programming in a drop in style environment
- Working with volunteers, community partners, and members of the staff team to deliver quality programs and special events
- Reports directly to the Executive Director/Youth Coordinator

**Position Description**:
The London Community Chaplaincy provides support for families living in the two largest low-income housing complexes in the City of London. In addition, outreach programs provide limited support and programming to underserved communities across the city. The London Community Chaplaincy seeks to build community with families who face the challenges of living in poverty, to empower the children of these families through teaching life skills, providing a safe place for learning, and exposure to healthy relationships with peers and adult leaders. The London Community Chaplaincy aims to offer a variety of structured and unstructured activities to engage children and youth ages 3 to high school during the summer months. The Summer Child and Youth Worker provides a positive adult presence at programming to model healthy relationships, support children and youth in summer activities, and assist with implementing skill based programming.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Supervise and mentor children and youth in daily programming
- Assist in the execution of community events and BBQs
- Assist children and youth in the development of key social skills, life skills, physical skills, literacy skills, and numeracy skills
- Provide supervision and mentoring for all activities
- Implement daily programs as scheduled by the Program Coordinator
- Ensure the accurate completion of records, statistics, and paperwork according to policies and procedures
- Provide a positive adult presence in the community
- Support children in resolving conflicts, problem solving, and developing social skills
- Develop healthy, professional, and supportive relationships with residents and encourage them to access programming
- Ensure safety and sanitation practices are followed as per agency guidelines
- Be responsible for the daily open and close of the site and ensuring that it is in good condition

**Key Competencies and required qualifications**:

- Experience and genuine love for working with children and youth
- High energy person, who enjoys outside play based activities
- Strong sense of personal initiative, with the ability to work independently and in a team
- A positive individual able to demonstrate empathy and to treat everyone with dignity and respect
- Ability to be comfortable working within a faith-based organization
- Be capable of participating moderate physical activity with children and youth in indoors and outdoors environments, can carry 20 lbs
- Experience supervising and offering appropriate guidance to children and youth
- Strong communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills to be used to support children and youth
- A highly flexible, adaptable, and creative individual who can modify programming to fit the individual needs of the children and youth
- **Must be between 18-30 years of age and meet the needs of Canada Summer Job Requirements**: be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment
- **Must have a registered Social Insurance Number and eligible to work in Canada**:

- **Current police check, including vulnerable sector screening.**

**Preferred Assets**:

- CPR and First Aid
- Safe Food Handling
- Understanding of working in a faith-based organization

**Compensation and Scheduling**:
$18.00/Hour for approximately 35 hours a week for 9 weeks (beginning June 30th, 2024). Shifts will be predominantly Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am and 6pm.
