**Saanich Peninsula Primary Care Youth Clinic - Mental Health Counsellor**

**Shoreline’s Youth Clinic**is the only youth health clinic available on the Saanich Peninsula. The physicians, mental health counselor, MOA staff and peer volunteers provide confidential support for any medical concern of young patients aged 12 to 24 years. Young people on the Peninsula visit the clinic to speak to a counselor, get prescriptions, access STI and pregnancy testing and to ask personal questions about their health. The clinic’s goal is to be a safe space for any young person who comes through the doors.

**Position Overview**: To address youth mental health needs of the Saanich Peninsula and deliver excellent patient care, in support of the longitudinal and Walk-in Clinic physicians at Shoreline Medical..

**Projection of weekly schedule**:One 2.5-hour shift per week, scheduled on Fridays.

**Wage Range**:$40 to $50 per hour, dependent on qualifications.

**Role**:
To provide direct clinical services such as short-term and drop-in mental health and addiction counseling for youth aged 12 to 24 years.

- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems to maintain appropriate client records.
- Strong ability to work with different personalities.
- Compassion; ability to offer a gender-affirming approach.
- Inclusive, with an understanding of and tolerance of a variety of personal values, as well as cultural sensitivity.
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn what local resources are available.
- Ability to maintain a calm professional approach in crisis situations

**Qualifications**:

- Master’s in Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care; or a comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level (or equivalent).
- Minimum 1 year experience of working with youth.
- Demonstrate knowledge of substance use and addiction issues, common mental health concerns in young people and their current treatment models.
- Training in, and deep understanding of human services ethics with regard to confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
