**POSTION SUMMARY**:
St. Joseph’s Hospice is a charitable, faith-based organization that offers compassionate holistic care and support to people living with a palliative illness. Support is extended to their family members and caregivers and to those grieving the loss of a loved one (**Client**). Hospice programs and services are offered at no cost and are available irrespective of age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity or economic status.
Whether in the community, our wellness centre or our 10-suite residence, St. Joseph’s Hospice provides specialized programs and services with a person-centred approach. Individuals and families are intimately involved in creating their own plan of care which best addresses their unique needs. Our competent and committed Hospice staff and volunteers work together as a team, with other community partners and service providers, to provide full support and quality hospice palliative care.
Reporting to the Director, Resident Care, the Housekeeper is responsible for providing housekeeping and cleaning services to St. Joseph’s Hospice and maintaining approved standards of cleanliness as established. The Housekeeper ensures that all health and safety standards are met and continually reinforced, all equipment is maintained in good, safe working order, and all work is completed in a safe manner that promotes the safety of all residents, family members, clients, co-workers and visitors.
**Key accountabilities of this position include**:
General Housekeeping:
- Vacuum, dust & clean all areas of Hospice, including walls & baseboards, ceilings, ledges, windows and window sills, balconies, elevators, stairway & washrooms. Clean floors.
- Daily disinfection and infection control.
- Terminal clean of the room after a death.
Laundry & Linens:
- Collect, sort & wash own cleaning products (cloths and mops).
Equipment Maintenance:
- Clean washers & driers, including filter boxes.
- Clean elevators & tracks.
- Clean fans & vents and lights.
- Make note of any necessary repairs and report them.
General Maintenance of Building:
- Hang and remove window dressings as required.
- Polish chrome & brass
- Clean windows, doors & doorways, shelves & cupboards
Entrances:
- Keep swept & clean, replace carpets as needed.
Garbage & Recyclables:
- Collect & dispose of as per environmental standards. Clean receptacles as required.
Additional Duties:
- Assist with the creation of policies and procedures as requested.
- Orientate & supervise housekeeping volunteers
- Supplies:
- Track & complete order request for all supplies as per established guidelines.
- Furniture:
- Clean, move and set up as required, including pictures, railings, mirrors & mattresses
- Carpets & Upholstery:
- Clean (shampoo and/or steam) and maintain as required.
- Plants- Dust, clean & water as needed.
- Compost- Assist in composting program.
- Other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to function with mínimal supervision.
- Housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care education or commitment to obtain within 2 years of start date.
- Experience working with volunteers an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated relationship management skills consistent with the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph’s
