**The Opportunity**

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) is a team of dedicated professionals delivering a vast array of emergency services to the citizens, business and visitors to Barrie. Originally organized in 1844, BFES has become one of the most respected fire services in Ontario, providing high-level service in: fire inspection/code enforcement, fire protection, technical rescue, training, communications, origin and cause investigations, and emergency management planning.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service operates a full time Dispatch Centre, which serves 21 municipalities in Simcoe, Grey and Dufferin Counties, the District of Muskoka and the City of Markham, 24/7 365 days per year. Barrie Fire's Communications Center is state-of-the-art and innovative fire dispatch centre that enjoys positive labour relations and strong support from Senior Administration. Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief Manager of Communications & Community Risk Reduction, the Assistant Deputy Chief of Communications and Technology will:
- Assist with managing dispatch center oversight including 16 full time staff and 5 part time staff in a fast-paced environment.- Lead the integration, maintenance and continuous improvement of technology to ensure secure, efficient and adaptable operations.- Assist with infrastructure planning, cybersecurity protocols, data analytics and interoperability.- Assist with dispatch client customer service.

**Education**(degree/diploma/certifications)
- Two (2) year post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Electronics, Engineering, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
- Completion or willing to obtain of NENA Emergency Number Professional designation
- Completion or willing to obtain NFPA 1061, 1021 & 1041 certification
- Project Management certification would be considered an asset
- Position Equivalency Code: C

**Experience**
- Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above and below mentioned major responsibilities, including demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- Thorough knowledge of the following principles and standards: Operations, services and activities of emergency communications programs relevant to the BFES communication center - CAD, RMS, Motorola radio systems, Station Alerting, Recording/Logging, NG9-1-1; Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation; Rules, regulations and procedures relating to fire radio communications-telephone procedures and dispatching; Proper operation and care of radio, computer and telephone equipment; Principles of budget preparation and control; Have the ability to produce data and dashboard reporting as required by other staff
- Demonstrated Ability to:

- Oversee technical systems administration, infrastructure, business architecture, and cybersecurity.
- Manage the operation of a communication center, including systems, equipment and personnel; Supervise, direct and coordinate the work of communications staff;
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff;
- Manage vendors, procurements and contracts.
- Maintain accurate records;
- Prepare clear and concise reports;
- Work rapidly under stress and exercise good judgment in emergency situations;
- Make quick decisions in directing shift personnel in handling non-routine situations;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Intermediate skills include: Collaboration; Customer Service; Leadership; Organizational; Prioritization; Process Mapping; Project Management; Teamwork; Verbal Communication; Written Communication
- Advanced computer literacy using the following systems and software: Computer Aided Dispatch System, Motorola radio systems, Records Management System, Phone system, Station Alerting, Recording/Logging, NG9-1-1
