**The Opportunity**
The Chief of Staff is accountable to the Boards of Directors on issues regarding the quality and safety of medical diagnosis, care and treatment and as member of the senior leadership team is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for providing administrative medical leadership to support the implementation of NGH’s and WHGH’s Mission, Vision and Values as well as chairing the Medical Advisory Committees of both Hospitals.

**Norfolk General Hospital**
Located in Simcoe, Ontario, Norfolk General Hospital provides exceptional healthcare to a municipality of approximately 69,000 people with 25,065 ED visits, 3,328 admissions, 17,153 ambulatory care visits and 3,753 surgical cases. Our area of focus provides a continuum of service throughout the life span of the people we serve including Emergency, Critical Care, Obstetrics, Medicine, Surgery, and Complex Continuing Care. With approximately 570 highly skilled and dedicated employees and 200 physicians, Norfolk General Hospital is a full service, 112-bed hospital with 24/7 on-call coverage of Specialists in Surgery, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics as well as on-site 24-hour per day medical coverage, with an annual budget of $60 million.

Simcoe is less than one hour away from most major centres, including Hamilton and London, and only 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. Situated in Norfolk County (Ontario’s South Coast), Simcoe is not far from Lake Erie and the 88 miles of shoreline that includes long stretches of sandy beach.

**West Haldimand General Hospital**

The West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) is a rural community hospital in the town of Hagersville, southwestern Ontario, which provides basic hospital and health care services to the people of Hagersville, Caledonia, Jarvis, Townsend, Cayuga, Fisherville, Selkirk, Nanticoke, the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve and the Mississaugas the New Credit First Nation Reserve. West Haldimand employs approximately 180 talented and dedicated professionals and has a 23-bed acute care Inpatient Unit, 24/7 Emergency Department, Ambulatory clinics as well as providing perioperative services for same-day surgical patients. WHGH has an annual budget of $17 million and provides 15,756 ED visits, 496 admissions, 779 ambulatory care visits and 1,455 surgical cases. Hagersville is less than one hour away from most major centres, including Hamilton and Brantford, and only 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area.
- Physician qualified to practice in the Province of Ontario with the ability to gain active privileges to practice medicine at NGH and WHGH.
- Master’s degree in Administration or a health related discipline is preferred.
- Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) or membership within the college of Family Physicians of Canada is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years working in a medical leadership role within a large community or academic centre is required.
- Experience leading and implementing initiatives in a program management context is preferred.
- Strong experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of best practice quality and safety initiatives is required.
- Appropriate training and relevant experience promoting cultural safety for Indigenous populations.

**Key Accountabilities and Deliverables**
- Ensure NGH’s and WHGH’s continued commitment and focus on the quality and safety of exceptional medical care, in compliance with the Public Hospitals Act, regulations and by-laws of NGH and WHGH.
- Lead and support physician engagement and participation strategy
- Provide guidance and counsel to the Boards, medical staff and hospital staff to assist them in responding to the challenges facing the health care system;
- Provide direction and support for Medical Leadership and professional staff related to quality, clinical service, planning, teaching, and physician leadership development
- Oversee the Medical Human Resource plan to ensure that it aligns with each Hospital’s strategic mandates;
- Participate on various committees and subcommittees of the Boards as defined in the Public Hospital’s Act and By-Laws of the Hospitals;
- Advance and promote a practice environment and a clinical cultural that is focused on high-quality, safe, patient-centred care, based upon an evolving body of clinical knowledge, best practices and research evidence;
- Develop, inspire and lead an approach to care that is reflective of the diversity of the population served and ensures patients and their families are engaged in care in a way that is respectful, non-judgmental, and culturally safe;
- Engage the community and NGH’s and WHGH’s physician leadership to promote and advance the role of NGH and WHGH as they work with partners to advance the work of the Ontario Health Team;
