**The Exercise Therapist - **Registered Kinesiologist is a core member of the cardiorespiratory rehabilitation team proving care for both the cardiac rehabilitation and COPD activation programs. They are **responsible for delivering, coordinating, and participating in patient exercise classes and patient education sessions; help defining customized exercise programs based on a patient’s abilities; ongoing development of program(s) activities; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; acting as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies. The Exercise Therapist reports to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Manager and or designate **.**
**POSITION RESPONSIBILITES**
**_Direct Comprehensive Care _**
- **Assist the patient, client and family in the education of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases**:
- **Assist in developing or adapting an exercise prescriptions to align with a patient’s abilities and medical condition**:
- **Responsible for ensuring the safety features of the exercise sessions including checking compliance with the prescribed medications, exercise program guidelines, monitoring for acute cardiovascular disease symptoms, measurement of vital signs and awareness and enforcement of contraindications to participation in exercise training.**:
- **Participation in the interdisciplinary team in coordination of patient care plan.**:
- **Maintain effective communications with other members of the patient care team; Alter appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, volunteers and others within our health care community.**:
- **Assist program participants in recognizing the signs and symptoms of cardiovascular and respiratory distress.**:

- **Provide motivational support to patients and families regarding long-term behavior modification.**:
- **Provide ongoing patient support for heart health management.**:
- **Provide ongoing psychosocial support in exercise sessions.**:

**_Exercise Training _**
- **Responsible for the exercise prescription and progression of exercise training.**:
- **Responsible for designing and supervising exercise sessions.**:

- **Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology**:
- **Registered Kinesiologist through the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario with a Certificate through the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA).**:
- **Current Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).**:
- **Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.**:
- **Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.**
