**Position title**:Junior Researcher - TUS **Position type**:Full-time, permanent **Location**:Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton, Toronto **Reports to**:Business Lead **Supervised by**:Research Director **Salary range**:Competitive, commensurate with experience **Application Deadline**:Position will remain open until filled **Position start date**:ASAP **Background**: **Job Duties**: Firelight’s TUS team seeks a Junior Researcher who can support work with Indigenous Knowledge across a variety of contexts and methods. A qualified Junior will be engaged in research with multiple communities and on multiple projects at a time, supporting research team leads in maintaining relationships with these communities along with methods development, data collection, analysis, and writing with the Firelight team. Juniors are willing to work hard and gain experience in all aspects of research work. Juniors receive supervision and mentorship from intermediate and senior staff, who are committed to helping juniors grow their careers as we provide best practice, Indigenous-led research services to our clients. Further aspects of the job are described below. - Research:_ - Assist with data collection (including spatial and qualitative data) using a variety of methods; - Assist with data analysis; - Conduct literature reviews based on academic, ethnographic, and other literature. - Information management:_ - Manage information, including interview and meeting notes, audio and video files, and spatial data files; - Update and track internal content management system (Sharefile) and support all team members to archive project-related documents and data effectively. - Relationship building:_ - Maintain and build ongoing relations with community partners; - Support completion of deliverables for diverse clients. - Report writing:_ - Perform regular reporting and documentation of data collection results; - Assist with drafting and finalizing project reports; - Provide support with generating maps and visual content with GIS data. - Travel:_ - Work closely with Firelight researchers and travel to communities to conduct research using social science methods that follow consistent documentation protocols; - Travel regularly up to 10 days per month, not necessarily consecutively, in communities. - Other:_ - Support administrative duties, special projects, and other tasks as may be required. **Qualifications**: - Bachelors or Masters degree (preferred) with advanced training in Anthropology, Geography, GIS, or a related field; - 1 - 3 years’ experience of relevant applied work in social science, research, or a related field. **Required Skills**: - Excellent written and oral communication skills; - Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; - Experience with social science methods, particularly for research on Indigenous Knowledge; - Ability to work within a fast-paced environment that includes diverse interests, including Indigenous communities and their membership; - Strong attention to detail and highly proficient with information management systems and protocols; - Firm grasp of ethnographic literature and practice; - Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences such as existing and potential clients, funders, directors, associates, and internal staff; - Driver’s licence required. **Firelight offers compensation commensurate with skills and training, within industry standard ranges.
