Working alongside rural, remote, Indigenous and other communities, Pinnguaq supports the development of STEAM skills through innovative technology, art, and play.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager of People and Culture helps shape and guide the employees who make up the Pinnguaq Association. This position supports the Pinnguaq Association by ensuring that the 65+ staff working across Canada work in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.

What does success look like at Pinnguaq?
- Engaging with thousands of young learners and adults across the country through the delivery of community-centred workshops
- Designing and deploying interactive experiences, online learning modules, and maker kits to teach STEAM fundamentals to all ages
- Publishing the nationally-recognized Root & STEM magazine, create a space to explore diverse voices and stories in STEAM
- Operating makerspaces in Nunavut & Ontario providing hands-on access to tools, equipment, and training for inquisitive minds and makers

**Responsibilities**:

- Direct Support: Travel to remote communities as needed to establish support, work plans, and trust with employees.
- Policy Support: Establish policies that combine Western and Indigenous work practices to create a holistic plan to maximize wellness and productivity within the Pinnguaq Association.
- Wrap-Around Support: In collaboration with Pinnguaq partners, develop health and wellness resources for Pinnguaq Association staff to use as needed.
- Counsels management and staff regarding human resources issues.
- Supports managers in addressing employee relations and performance issues, using each issue as an opportunity to understand the true root cause and develop a plan to resolve the issue.
- Ensures performance appraisal reviews are conducted and assists managers as needed.
- Leads, coordinates and participates in the full cycle of recruitment within Pinnguaq Association.
- Working with the CFO and CSuite, understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
- Working with the CFO monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry
- Ensure that HR and personnel record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
- Working with the CFO, ensure that Pinnguaq operates in a lawful and ethical manner and minimize liabilities and organizational threats, managing relationships and strategies with legal council
- Effectively communicate insights, learnings and trends to Pinnguaq's leadership team
- Organize, facilitate and chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee in accordance with all applicable labour laws and Pinnguaq Policy.
- Oversee corporate services such as inventory management and space management
- Manage a small team of Corporate services/HR admin support

Attributes and Qualifications:
Please Note: Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Certification in HR (Minimum of a Degree/Diploma or equivalent in Human Resources, Business)
- CHRP/CHRL designation (Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader) an asset but not necessary.
- Knowledge and appreciation for both Westernized and Indigenous HR practices is essential to this position (or willing to learn).
- Thorough knowledge of provincial labour and employment-related legislation

Working Knowledge of:

- Best practices for Human Resource
- HUMI HR software (or willing to learn)
- Positive presence and positive outlook with a non-judgemental problem solving approach to issues, incorporating IQ or Grandfather Teachings where possible considered an asset.
- Experienced and able with modern forms of communication including Gmail, Google Docs, Google drive, etc.
- Ability to identify and understand cultural barriers and help identify and present practical solutions
- To increase protection for the communities in which we work, we require all staff at Pinnguaq to be fully vaccinated, including a Booster vaccination, along with providing a recent Vulnerable Sector Screening._
