Lumber Yard Manager

**Yard Manager**

The Yard Manager is responsible for directing all operations of the lumber yard while ensuring compliance with all current company policies and HHSL standards. The Yard Manager is responsible for maintaining and supporting their team daily to maintain top customer service level goals, ensuring daily staff productivity requirements are met, and coordinating with other managers to support other areas of the operation as required. The primary focus of this role is customer satisfaction with a strong emphasis on building staff morale. This is a role that requires leadership by example. The Yard Manager needs to be hands-on with tasks and is required to work along with staff to serve customers, receive material, build loads, etc. All tasks are performed with sufficient speed and accuracy to ensure courteous and prompt customer service is maintained at all times.

**Customer Service**
- Ensure the highest levels of customer service are maintained to ensure a positive customer experience
- Maintain a high profile and ‘hands on’ management style
- Conduct daily check-ins to communicate pertinent information, provide daily direction and ensure peak productivity levels.
- Routinely coordinates with other managers to ensure optimal operational effectiveness and sharing of resources.
- Support staff to facilitate prompt settlement of customer complaints and problems.

**HR**
- Recruit and develop a winning team to ensure high customer service levels.
- Identify, develop and train personnel capable of assuming further responsibilities within the company.
- Create schedules for staff according to store traffic patterns and wage budgets. Manage schedules for vacations, holidays, sick days.
- Review weekly time sheets
- Manage onboarding & training plans, facility orientation, training, HR files etc for new and existing staff.
- Ensure that all personnel maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a positive customer shopping experience.
- Maintain and grow a positive relationship between the yard staff and the sales associates.
- Create and administer annual performance reviews
- Take appropriate disciplinary action when employees violate company rules and/or policies. Maintain complete and accurate records of such actions.

**Operations**
- Direct the complete operation of the yard while following the guidelines of current company policy.
- Leading and developing yard associates and delivery drivers
- Provide an environment that encourages high employee productivity and morale.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional relationship with our builder/contractor customers.
- Ensure an efficient and prompt flow of daily deliveries.
- Coordinate and communicate with other managers in other areas (Merchandising, Inventory Control etc.) as required to help achieve overall operational goals
- Implement all policies, procedures, and objectives as determined by the management team

**Qualifications**
- Leadership experience in lumber yard or customer service in a related industry
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Proven management track record leading a successful sales or merchandising team
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to lead and work cooperatively in a team atmosphere.
- Excellent communication skills.

**Work Conditions**:

- Ability to lift 50lbs to 80lbs.
- Frequent standing, bending, and lifting.
- Exposure to seasonal weather.
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
