- Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a school of students, faculty, thinkers and makers unlike any other. Established in 1925, we are the only specialized, accredited, public, post-secondary university in British Columbia solely devoted to education and research in the creative sector and its associated knowledge economy. We merge research, critical theory and studio practice in an interdisciplinary environment, strengthening our work by the integration of our personal and professional practices. Our strategy, facilities, partnerships and resources are intentionally student-centred to foster dialogue, expression and open connections in support of the next generation of creative and cultural leaders.- The Indigenous Business Development Liaison collaborates closely with Career Services and Work Integrated Learning on campus. The role entails creating and developing meaningful connections with indigenous artists and businesses, community partners, alumni businesses, and non-profit organizations. The primary objective of the Liaison is to develop Work Integrated Learning Opportunities for Indigenous students in the areas of Art, Design and Media to enhance their employability upon graduation.**Some Typical Duties**:

- Collaboratively with the Director, Career Development + Work Integrated Learning works on the development and delivery of the plan for developing connections with organizations and indigenous communities for student placements.
- Works with the Aboriginal Gathering Place and Emily Carr’s Aboriginal student population to ensure student needs are prioritized and aligned with any potential partnerships.
- Researches and identifies potential partners in industry, government agencies and institutions (locally, nationally, and internationally) to build relationships, explore partnerships and create paid opportunities for indigenous students.
- Take the lead in fostering independence within the role, to fulfil ministry mandates aimed at enhancing Indigenous engagement in Work Integrated Learning.
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision of Research Assistants (RAs) to provide essential support in programming, as well as in the planning and execution of events.
- Operates with full autonomy and collaborates with the team to support initiatives through administrative assistance and allocated resources.
- Initiates, builds, and maintains new employer relationships for Work Integrated Learning job development and other project-based initiatives for indigenous students.
- Advises employers on requirements and availability of government and other funding opportunities for hiring Indigenous students.
- Report on the performance of Indigenous business development, marketing, communications and training efforts.
- Fosters a culture of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) by remaining current in JEDI trends that impact their field of work and make recommendations to the Director, Career Development + Work Integrated Learning for improvements in support of the ECU community, and the strategic goals of the University.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences (e.g. northern/Indigenous studies, business administration or another relevant field.
- Minimum five to six years’ of related experience in Indigenous relation, with Indigenous leadership, working with the Ministry, granting agencies and funding bodies. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations is a strong asset.
- Experience with programming and event creation, development, and execution.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative and respectful relationships with diverse communities, encompassing community investment, engagement with relevant parties, Indigenous engagement, and/or marketing experience.
- Demonstrated experience in job development with a focus on work integrated learning programs and positions.
- Solid understanding of post-secondary work-integrated learning models and programming.
- Experience working with employers and job seekers from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Specifically, a keen understanding of the challenges and barriers encountered by Indigenous job seekers, along with an awareness of cultural factors influencing Indigenous employees in the workforce.
- Knowledge of the creative industries in BC, with a particular focus on creative fields such as Visual Arts, Animation, Design, Film, Curatorial, and related sectors.
