**Position Overview**
We are looking for a **Water Coordinator** to join our operations team. The Water Coordinator is responsible for the operation and water delivery within an assigned Irrigation Unit, ensuring efficient distribution while adhering to District policies, regulations, and budgets. This position requires accurate record-keeping, infrastructure maintenance, and strong communication with landowners.
The Water Coordinator plays a key role in managing water flow, minimizing spill water, and maintaining irrigation infrastructure. During the off-season, this position supports Operations, Maintenance, and Capital Construction Projects.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Water Delivery & Operations**
- Plan, organize, and control water delivery within the assigned Irrigation Unit.
- Maintain accurate records of all water deliveries.
- Enforce regulations and policies set by the Board of Directors, in compliance with the Irrigation Districts Act and Water Act.
- Perform ongoing assessments of channels and structures, recommending improvements.
**Infrastructure & Maintenance**
- Maintain canals, pipelines, turnouts, and structures during the operating season.
- Record infrastructure conditions and report necessary repairs for off-season maintenance.
- Keep District buildings, grounds, and canal turnout sites clean and well-maintained.
- Conduct periodic field inspections, ensuring all irrigation structures, drains, and inaccessible areas are checked regularly.
- Maintain and ensure the proper operation of the assigned District vehicle, reporting any required maintenance.
- Consult with the Inventory/Purchasing & Safety Coordinator on vehicle maintenance and documentation.
**Landowner & Stakeholder Relations**
- Maintain good relations with landowners, handling water orders and concerns professionally.
- Act as a liaison between landowners and District management for water delivery and infrastructure issues.
**Off-Season Responsibilities**
- Assist with the construction of Operations & Maintenance Projects.
- Support the construction of Capital Works Projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the designated Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
**On-Call & Overtime and Weekends**
- Be on-call approximately one weekend per month during the water operating season which is from May - October.
- Work on weekends and overtime will be required to meet operational demands.
**Additional Responsibilities**:
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and legal standards.
- Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and process improvements.
- Oversee building maintenance scheduling.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
**Working Conditions**
- Time is split between fieldwork (such as monitoring canals, reservoirs, pump stations etc.) and office work (planning, safety, reporting etc.).
- Weather exposure: field work may involve working in hot, cold, rainy, windy etc. conditions depending on the region and season
- Job sites are in rural or remote locations which will require driving between locations.
- Moderate to high physical demands as this position includes walking along canals, climbing into ditches or reservoirs and inspecting values and gates.
