Position Overview:
Key Responsibilities
:
- Source and purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from industrial, commercial, and individual suppliers.
- Focus on securing consistent and high-quality ferrous material streams (e.g., HMS, P&S, shredded, cast iron).
- Make appropriate entries in to computer systems for intake and shipments.
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing and contract terms based on market trends and company goals.
- Conduct site visits to assess material quality and volume.
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to coordinate pickups and deliveries.
- Monitor market conditions and pricing trends to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier communications.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during procurement activities.
- Represent Maple Leaf Metals professionally at industry events and trade shows. Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in scrap metal buying, with a strong emphasis on ferrous materials.
- Solid understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous metal grades, specifications, and market dynamics.
- Proven negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple supplier accounts.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for site visits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM or procurement software. Benefits:
