**The Opportunity**
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive **Health and Safety Coordinator** to join our team. This is a pivotal role for ALC, as you will lead and support the continued implementation of our Health and Safety Management System aligned with **ISO 45001**, and guide the company through its **external certification audit**. You’ll collaborate closely with management, supervisors, and crews to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), company policies, and ISO 45001 standards.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead the ongoing implementation of ALC’s ISO 45001-aligned Health and Safety Management System, preparing the company for its external certification audit.
- Conduct internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Support the development, revision, and communication of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Deliver or facilitate safety orientations, training, and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and injuries, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate and organized safety records, including audit findings, inspection reports, training records, and corrective action tracking.
- Act as a knowledgeable resource for supervisors and employees regarding health and safety requirements and best practices.
- Report regularly to management on the status of ISO 45001 implementation and audit readiness.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum **3 years’ experience** in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation or similar certification processes is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of the **Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects**.
- Knowledge of additional applicable regulations, including **WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, and Smoke-Free Workplace requirements**.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, demonstrating initiative and proactive problem-solving.
- A champion of inclusion and diversity, fostering a respectful and collaborative workplace.
- Adaptable and flexible, able to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital safety management platforms (e.g., SiteDocs) is preferred.
- Valid **G-class Ontario driver’s license**, with access to reliable transportation for site visits.
