Utility Pipelayer

**Job Summary**We are looking to expand our underground utility team with skilled professionals for both pipe installation and surface restoration. We are hiring for a **Pipelayer / Excavator Operator** to handle water and sewer connections, alongside an **Asphalt Paver Operator** and **Raking Crew** to complete permanent road restorations following utility cuts.**Role 1: Pipelayer & Utility Excavator OperatorKey Responsibilities**:

- **Machine Operation**: Expertly operate a **John Deere wheeled excavator** to dig trenches, load trucks, and perform precise excavations around live underground utilities in tight urban environments.
- **Connection Expertise**: Execute water and sewer service connections in strict accordance with the **City of Winnipeg’s Standard Construction Specifications** (e.g., proper use of PVC SDR 28 pipe, service tees, and saddles).
- **Trenching & Shoring**: Dig and grade trenches to required depths and slopes while ensuring all safety protocols for shoring and trench boxes are followed.
- **Maintenance**: Perform daily pre-operational checks and minor maintenance on the John Deere unit to ensure optimal performance.

**Required Qualifications**:

- **Experience**: Minimum of **2 years** in underground utility installation.
- **Winnipeg Standards**: In-depth knowledge of City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department regulations and permit requirements.
- **Licensing**: Valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 3 preferred).

**Also Seeking Role 2: Asphalt Paver Operator & Raking CrewKey Responsibilities**:

- **Paver Operation**: Operate asphalt paving machinery to restore street surfaces after utility work, ensuring a smooth finish that meets City of Winnipeg smoothness standards (maximum 10mm variation over 3m).
- **Raking & Finishing**: Use hand tools to spread, rake, and lute asphalt material to proper grade and thickness before compaction.
- **Compaction Coordination**: Work with roller operators to achieve specified density and prevent mechanical injury to new pavement until it has cooled.

**Required Qualifications**:

- **Experience**: Previous experience in municipal road restoration or commercial paving.
- **Technical Skill**: Understanding of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) temperatures and compaction requirements for City of Winnipeg permanent restorations.
- **Physical Stamina**: Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions and high-heat environments.

**General Requirements for All Positions**
- **Safety**: Current certification in Ground Disturbance and First Aid/CPR.
- **Blueprints**: Ability to read and interpret civil engineering blueprints and GIS utility maps.
- **Communication**: Strong verbal skills to coordinate with City of Winnipeg inspectors and site supervisors.

Pay: $50.00-$60.00 per hour
