Personal Support Worker (Resident Attendant)

**_Reports to: _**General Manager**

**_Qualifications:_**

1. Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.

2. Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.

3. Good physical and mental health and free from communicable disease.

4. Certified in CPR and First Aid recommended.

5. Good understanding of the nursing process

6. Good written and verbal communication skills.

7. Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures.

8. PSW certification

9. Able to perform physical work

10. Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, residents and families

**_Physical Demands:_**
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care where required.
- Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen.
- Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
- Speaking/communicating with individuals.

**_Job Description: _**

1. Provide nursing care, if applicable, in accordance with established policies, physicians order and nursing standards

2. Completing nursing documentation if applicable as per residence policies and guidelines

3. Responsible for administration of medications and treatments as ordered by residents' physicians within his/her limitations as set by the College of Nurses if Attendant administers medication

4. Answer call bells and assist where necessary

5. Completes daily, weekly and monthly duties as per policy

6. Assist with monthly blood pressure and weights, as assigned

7. Assist with serving meals when necessary

8. Maintains confidentiality of all resident information including resident medication among other residents

9. All other duties as delegated by the General Manager

**_Additional Qualifications:_**

1. Participates in staff development, safety quality assurance, environment and infection control programs

2. Creates an enjoyable, relaxed and entertaining environment in the home and assumes responsibility for the morale and well being of residents

3. Deals courteously with, staff, residents, resident families and visitors.

4. Attends and actively participates in daily communication meetings

5. Observe and report any resident changes in condition

6. Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident.

7. Strives to understand and respond to each resident with empathy, always remaining mindful of the resident’s unique communication patterns, history and basic human needs.

**_Job Description: Risk Management and General Safety_**

1. Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.

2. Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.

3. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.

4. Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.

5. Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of bio-hazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.

6. Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 8-16 per week

**Salary**: $19.53-$21.37 per hour
