Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
**Position Overview**:
Working under the direction of the Manager/Clinical Service Leader/Physiotherapist, the incumbent is expected to function effectively as a member of a team that may include other healthcare providers, family members, caregivers and mentally and/or physically challenged clients. The incumbent must consistently demonstrate courtesy, compassion and respect for the client’s personal dignity and privacy.
The incumbent primarily performs routine job functions and may be assigned more complex duties depending on the incumbent’s demonstrated proficiency.
All job functions involving direct patient care are performed in accordance with the Physician’s written or verbal orders.

**NOTE**: The degree of independence and level of complexity will increase proportionately to the incumbent’s increased demonstrated proficiency.
**Experience**:
- Experience working in a healthcare setting with adult and pediatric orthopedic conditions is preferred.
**Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)**:
- Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- Successful completion of a recognized course in Anatomy and Physiology is required.
- The incumbent must write and pass the registry examination offered by either the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists or the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals within a two year period from the date of hire.
The ability and initiative to self teach is essential.
In addition to extensive self teaching, on-the-job training will be provided by the Orthopedic Technology Educator as well as the Physiotherapists and/or Orthopedic Technologists to prepare the incumbent for the registry exam.
In addition, the incumbent must attend relevant continuing education programs as requested by the Orthopedic Technology Educator, Clinical Service Leader or Manager.
**SPECIAL TRAINING**:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
- WHMIS training is provided.
**Certification/Licensure/Registration**:
- Must receive full registration with either the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists or the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals within two years from the date of hire.

**Physical Requirements**:
- Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
- Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
- Must be able to safely transfer large and/or heavy clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
- Must demonstrate adequate motor coordination or dexterity, strength and endurance to perform the complete spectrum of job functions.
- May be required to work evenings, nights and weekends.
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be exposed to dust, grease, oil, infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- Must be able to work well under stress and time constraints with frequent interruptions. May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions in Shared Health that combine to equal more than 1.0 FTE.
